We are seeking a Process Operator to join our client at their manual manufacturing plant in Mildenhall, Suffolk. This is a permanent, shift-based position, working X4 12-hour day shifts one week, followed by X3 12-hour night shifts the week after. This is a rare chance to join a well-established, stable employer working in a small shift team of 5. The salary on offer with the role ranges from £25,000 - £38,000 per annum depending on relevant experience.
The Company
Our client has been operating for over 50 years and are an independent business who manufacture batch chemicals for blue chip companies globally. Their finished products are fine chemicals and polymers, used for making anything from sealants, adhesives, dyes, paint, oil additives and many other products.
They employ around 35 staff and have a respectful workplace with a traditional, friendly and fair company culture. Each member of staff is well looked-after and can enjoy pay increase and progression opportunities in exchange for long-term commitment and great work ethic.
The Role
This position involves following process controls and working to production schedules to mix and manufacture large quantity batches of fine chemicals and polymers.
You will be using multi-purpose reactors and ancillary equipment to meet required production output, whilst upholding agreed standards of quality. It will involve working as a tight knit shift team.
Main duties and responsibilities involve:
• Working as a team, effectively manufacturing batches of chemicals
• Following strict guidelines, H&S protocols and instructions to the letter
• Take an active interest in your own learning and development in the role
• Packing of non-bulk powders and liquids to appropriate vessels
• Facilitating the transfer of manufactured bulk batches to IBCs or tankers
• Unloading and transferring of liquid raw materials from road tanker to storage vessels
• Manually operating the plant machinery
• Upholding excellent, clear communication with colleagues both on-shift and within other departments
• Reporting of any issues that arise to the Production Manager
Requirements
This role requires a responsible person who understands the importance of following procedures and maintaining health and safety standards.
You’ll need to enjoy learning and be able to follow written and verbal instructions to the letter. It is a position of responsibility and requires dedication and an understanding of the risks involved in the work.
Other requirements are:
• Must be literate, numerate, able to communicate clearly and follow both verbal and written instructions accurately and consistently.
• A formal qualification in science (preferably chemistry), such as a GCSE, A Level, HND or BSc would be an advantage, although experience in a relevant manufacturing industry is acceptable as an alternative. Full training will be given to the successful candidate
• Preferably some experience of the operational requirements of a manufacturing environment, or an ability to demonstrate a sound understanding of the key issues.
• Preferably some knowledge of COSHH and the Health & Safety at Work Act.
• Ability to operate or be trained to operate a counterbalance forklift truck.
• A confident, enthusiastic learner who has patience and understands learning can be a long process
• Somebody who is happy working in an industrial environment, which can be physically challenging at times
• A friendly, hard-working nature. Somebody who wants to be part of a small, close-knit team
Shifts
This role operates on a 12 hour weekly rotating shift pattern as follows:
Day shift: Monday - Thursday 7:15am – 7:30pm Night Shift: Monday - Wednesday 7:15pm – 7:30am
Salary
The annual salary on offer, which is inclusive of shift allowance ranges between £25,000 - £38,000 per annum depending on relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
