The General Manager will be responsible for the management of the operational elements of the business, including administration and finance, the day-to-day running of the building, governance, HR and compliance and will have line management responsibilities. This role can be offered on a full or part-time basis with a flexible working pattern. Because of the nature of this role, it is expected that you will be office-based in order to meet the needs of a public-facing building.

Your new role

The General Manager will be a crucial part of the Organisation and as such, you will be leading on a number of key operational elements of the business. You will work closely with the Senior Management Team, Trustees, staff and third-party contractors, taking responsibility for the day to day building operations as well as governance, HR and compliance and general administration and finance.As part of this role, you will be responsible for the general management and improvements of the building to ensure an excellent and safe visitor experience, whilst also providing internal support by working to ensure that wider systems and policies are in place to keep the staff team working efficiently and responsibly.

Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

• Oversee recruitment processes, working closely with the Senior Management team to manage the recruitment of all team members.
• Take full responsibility for overseeing the appraisal and professional development of the Finance and Administration Assistant, and other staff as allocated by the CEO.
• Lead on drafting and managing contracts for all team members, including employees, casual workers and freelancers.
• Schedule and conduct inductions for new team members.
• Support, uphold and regularly review company policies and procedures with support from the Board and CEO.
• Manage volunteers, contractors and visitors of community/shared space(s).
• Liaise with statutory and licencing authorities as appropriate to ensure all necessary licences are obtained and routinely renewed.
• To be appointed Health and Safety Officer and to always keep abreast of the requirements of the company health and safety policy.
• Implement and maintain standards of on-site presentation including signage, staff and volunteer identification, tidying / cleaning procedures.
• Maintain all administrative systems for the efficient and effective operation of the organisation, improving their effectiveness, coordinating office procedures, and resolving management and administrative problems.
• Work with the CEO to manage administration and reporting processes for all existing funding streams and assist with the research and completion of funding bids.
• Support the development of contracts for team members and third-party contractors.
• Oversee the monthly staff rotas.
• Any other general administrative tasks as reasonably required.
• Manage and support staff, including the Finance and Administration Officer and other members of the staff team as allocated by the CEO.
• Support the CEO to provide reports for the Board of Trustees and attend Trustee meetings, relevant subcommittees as required.
• Provide administrative assistance to the Board of Trustees, including taking minutes and scheduling quarterly meetings.
• Manage the recruitment of new Trustees to the Board.
• Oversee policy planning, implementation, and ratification.
• Cultivating new revenue funding relationships with corporate partners, donors and trusts and foundations.
• Maintaining relationships with funders, partners and stakeholders and meeting reporting requirements linked to these.
• Development of new funding relationships with trusts and foundations.

What you'll need to succeed

• Administrative management experience in a high impact organisation.
• Budgeting and financial management skills, preferably in a comparable sector.
• Experience of accountancy software (Sage 50).
• Practical knowledge of recruitment and line management, and strong understanding of HR systems and processes.
• Successful track record in implementing improvements and change in an operational capacity.
• Experience and knowledge of managing premises and taking responsibility for health and safety management in a visitor-focused environment.
• Experience of managing or working with Local Authority relationships.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent General Building Operative to join our Ministry of Justice (MoJ) account in HMP Frankland, Brasside, Durham DH1 5YD. This role is based on-site, which is accessible by public transport and has free parking available.



There will be a need to work 1 in 3 weekends but this would be on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary).



At Amey, we’re supporting our justice client, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons. By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.



General Building Operative plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.



The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week (across 7 days where a weekend shift pattern is in place), Monday to Friday 07:30 - 16:30; Saturday to Sunday 08:00 - 16:00.

You will be responsible for:



To work in a team to provide general maintenance tasks and support tradespeople on site.
Provide a professional assistance service to those requesting support including contractor escorting duties when required.
Complete tasks associated with DIY such as Decorating, hanging notice boards, building furniture, repair of items around the prison.
Checking appliances, fittings and general environment are in good working order and all defects reported to Team Leader.
General good housekeeping, including litter picking and landscaping around the grounds if required.
All other FM duties as required directed by team manager.
This role will also support both local and business zero carbon programmes, working towards zero carbon in a strategic and lean manner as and where it is appropriate.
Responsible for ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.


What makes this role unique is you will support the engineers in all maintenance across the site as well as working independently. Prison Security Clearance will be required (Amey will support you through this process).



We want to hear from you if you have:

Solid experience in DIY/ general building maintenance.
CITB relevant certification or equivalent.
Willingness to learn new skills.
Ability to work well in a team.


Ideally you will be qualified in a trade with experience in general maintenance.



In addition to this, it would be desirable if you have time management skills and experience working within a large site area, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.

THE BUSINESS

Westray Recruitment Group is delighted to bring to you a client who are looking for a mobile Commercial Cleaner to join their team based in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

You will be working for a growing business who specialises in providing commercial cleaning solutions for the North East of England. The business operates within a 90-mile radius of Newcastle Upon Tyne serving its customers across the region.

The business is a high performing business with excellent customer reviews for the quality of work and overall service.

You will be working within a small team most of the time independently however there may be occasions where you are required to work as a team on a specific job.

There are permanent roles available for the right candidates and a pay increase has been agreed once a candidate goes permanent.


THE ROLE

The role itself is a commercial cleaning role which is mobile and requires you to drive to various different locations across the North East of England within a 90-mile radius of Newcastle Upon Tyne.

You will work Monday to Friday between 9:00am and 6:00pm with the flexibility to work evenings and through the night if required for specific jobs. Night shift work will be pre -arranged.

There is scope for progression with this role if you are suitable and the business are keen to develop their staff.

You will be required to write up reports as part of your role and take on some training and as such require a good command of English.

The types of areas you will be required to clean are:

- Property

- Retail

- Construction & building sites

- Extraction, duct and ventilation

- Biohazards, post police attendance etc.

- Kitchen Hygiene

- Warehouses

- Offices

Please be aware - you will require a full UK driver's license with less than 3 points. This is a full-time role we cannot recruit students on this basis. You will be required to take the work vehicle home with you.


THE PERSON

- 1-2 years' experience in commercial cleaning

- Educated to GCSE level in English and Maths with pass mark is essential

- The ability to carry out physical work for long hours

- Working at height qualifications desired but not essential

- CSCS Green Card desired but not essential

- PASMA/IPAF desired but not essential

- Training can be provided on the job for the right candidate

- The ability to work with accuracy and at a fast pace

- Flexible to work at various times to suit client demand

- Working independently alone using own initiative

- Work efficiently in a wide variety of situations professionally and sensitively

- The ability to delivery excellent customer service

- Strong communication skills and the ability to work in unsanitary environments

About The Role
