Job Description
We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for an Estate Assistant to join our Estates team working 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday, from 08:00am to 4:00pm), earning £23,023 per annum. This is a full-time opportunity, working 35 hours per week to support our team providing high quality grounds services to schemes - predominantly covering Aylesbury, Buckingham, Leighton Buzzard, and the surrounding areas. There will be times when you will be expected to cover other areas when required, but company van will be used for travel when this is necessary. All PPE will be provided by Guinness.

Reporting into the Estates Services Officer you will be responsible for providing high quality cleaning services to our schemes. We are looking for someone who has good customer service skills as you will be interacting with our customers and colleagues, and you would be working both within a team and on your own. The work can sometimes be quite physically demanding.

Some of the key duties involved are:

• Grounds, maintenance, and external gardening work (Hedge trimming, grass cutting, weed and moss control etc).
• Cleaning internal and external communal areas.
• Using mechanical cleaning tools.
• Cleaning of internal communal areas including lifts, corridors (mopping dusting and vacuuming).
• Bin store/bulk waste management.
• Litter picking.
• Customer interaction.

Work Schedule

• Monday to Friday - 8am - 4pm.
• No weekend working.

Essential Requirements

• Full clean UK driving licence.

DBS School Caretaker- Aylesbury

Working Hours- 37 hours per week/52 weeks per year working on a shift rota covering mornings (from 6.00 am to 2.00 pm) and afternoons (12.00 pm to 8.00 pm) on alternate weeks

Salary- £21,879 to £23,961 depending on experience

Job Duties- To provide Caretaker duties in conjunction with two other team members (examples of duties for the team are listed below)

Lock/unlock school buildings and areas in the mornings and evenings.
Undertake regular security checks and identify security risks.
Monitor fire safety equipment and carry out fire drills.
Operate and respond to alarm systems where appropriate.
Monitor CCTV or surveillance equipment where appropriate.
Liaise with police, security and surveillance contractors.
Provide emergency access to the school site.
Organise and carry out various maintenance duties to ensure that the general upkeep and maintenance of the premises is satisfactory.
Daily routines to include litter picks internally and externally after break and lunch to ensure the building and site is kept to a high standard of cleanliness. All paved areas to be kept clean, tidy and litter free.
Collect and assemble waste for collection.
Undertake cleaning duties such as graffiti removal, litter-picking, gutter and drain clearing when necessary. Undertake specialist cleaning tasks. Liaise and help co-ordinate the school cleaners.
Carry out routine Health & Safety checks as required - e.g. legionella testing, fire alarms, emergency lighting etc.
Portering duties, eg. delivering mail/packages, moving furniture and equipment.
Set up the school facilities for internal and external events - e.g. assemblies, open evenings, exams etc.
Co-ordinate deliveries to the school site.
Organise and carry out minor decorations programme as agreed with the Site Manager and Business Manager
Organise and carry out minor improvement works and repairs - eg. erecting shelves, notice boards, bookshelves, heating, windows, doors etc. as agreed with the Site Manager and the Business Manager.
Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security and confidentiality, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
Undertake risk assessment of security risks to the school (grounds, premises and contents) including vandalism and arson.
Regularly review the Fire Risk Assessments and Emergency Evacuation Plan.
Participate in training and other learning activities as required including First Aid.
Establish positive relationships and communication with contractors and other agencies and professionals.

The respiratory department is currently based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital with additional outpatient services and lung function services at Wycombe Hospital. A new candidate’s job could be weighted to be spending more time at Wycombe hospital, if it suited the person for their commute.

The department receives referrals mainly from Buckinghamshire and some from adjacent counties (Berks, Herts, Oxon). The spectrum of disease is wide including about 200 newly diagnosed lung cancers and 50+ cases of tuberculosis per year, with a large cohort of interstitial lung disease patients. COPD and asthma cases remain a large amount of our work and community MDT clinics have been started by us in 2020 and are likely to expand. The local GPs are excellent and are involved in the CCG decision processes.

The new consultant will be based at SMH in the department of Respiratory Medicine unless they wish to be based at Wycombe or Amersham. They will look after 20-24 inpatients on a rotational basis, (currently 2:7 weeks, but this will change with the appointment of more consultants); regular outpatient clinics, the weekly number of which will vary according to the ward rotational commitments ( x1 a week when IP consultant, x4 a week when OP consultant). We also have a consultant rotation for inreach referrals for respiratory to the acute medical units, to aid early discharge with associated ambulatory care pathways to review patients.

The Respiratory team won the Trust award of Acute Healthcare team of the Year; and the Consultant Lead won the Trust Leadership award in 2021.

We are looking to expand to provide a training for our formal Respiratory Specialist Unit for NIV, which is in place now; to aid our admission avoidance service; and to support respiratory outpatients to. All applicants within 6 months of CCT at interview date are welcome and all other subspecialist interests would be considered, and mentored. Less than full time working will be considered and welcomed.

The Respiratory Team has approximately 45 inpatients. 2 consultants run the 2 wards on rotation. 3 registrars and 2 IMT from the HETV/Oxford rotation and 9 juniors support the wards. We provide COPD and COVID early supported discharge.

We have weekend daytime on call for the respiratory wards giving 7/7 Respiratory cover; and take part in the acute general medicine on call during the week. There has been a large investment in Acute Medicine with a reconfiguration of the urgent care pathway, and appointment of new Acute Physicians. Sub-specialty outpatient clinics exist for lung cancer, pleural, cough/airways and TB. We work very much as a team of consultants with MDT meetings, and have commitment to teaching all grades of doctors.
