Job Overview-

We currently have the opportunity for TWO substantive consultant positions in acute and general paediatrics with an interest in High Dependency Care and is based in the Leicester Children’s Hospital at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, a major teaching hospital closely allied with the University of Leicester. The appointment will be whole time. Any Consultant who is unable for personal reasons, to work whole time, will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with Consultant colleagues.



The main focus of the post will be the providing secondary level paediatric services to children in Leicester.

• To contribute to the provision of the Acute and General Paediatric service as well as providing care to the patients admitted to HDU.
• Weekly General Paediatric outpatient clinics.
• Participate in the consultant cover and service provision for the General Paediatric Service including, Consultant of the week day time rota.
• Participate in the General Paediatric Consultant on-call service. This includes 24-7 out-of-hours cover for the Children’s Hospital.

The post holder will be a key support to the Dietitians enabling them to deliver a high quality evidence based dietetic and nutrition service. The post holder will gather clinical information eg weight, growth and feed toleration either verbally or from clinical records and feedback to the paediatric Dietitian. Assess patients nutritional status using a range of anthropometric measurements and accurately plot measurements onto childs growth chart under the direction of a paediatric Dietitian. The post holder will input food diaries into nutritional analysis software for the paediatric Dietitian to then assess patients nutritional intake. The post holder will also act as a liaison for the Paediatric & Neonatal Dietitians. Ensuring that appropriate advice is given to relevant services/teams/departments in order that an individuals nutrition and dietary needs are met e.g. milk kitchen, pharmacy and catering services.
