Our client is a leading European dry bulk owner/operator looking to recruit an experienced Stowage Advisor with prior sailing experience as a Master Mariner on board bulk carriers.
This role will be based in Singapore and unlimited work entitlement is required.
Key Responsibilities
• Respond to all cargo handling / stowage related enquiries as arise as part of day to day activity within the office.
• Crafting preliminary prestows in the office and / or assisting Masters with their stow plans - amongst many other related types of activity.
• Achieve the most cost-effective stowage solutions, taking account of all the elements - including cargo care, productivity, cost and safety.
• Prepare lifting calculations and method statements, including lifting equipment details, for project cargo or other contract tenders as may be required.
• Responsible for proper communciation on such plans and for ensuring that the relevant stakeholders understand by those who will implement them.
• Estbalish the link between local ops staff and the regional or head office for all issues relating to stowage and cargo handling.
• Provide professional support and follow-up on these matters to local operational staff, (eg Port Captains) providing guidance and direction on methods and company procedures, raising issues as appropriate with Operations management for discussion and /or approval as may be necessary.
• Adopt a leading and proactive role in the work needed to maintain the Company's manuals and other internal information sources as far as they relate to cargo, cargo handling and stowage issues.
• This will entail close coordination with local operational staff as well as the voyage management teams to ensure that all changes are noted and updated plus that new cargoes / new methods are identified and recorded.
• To assist in gathering data and preparing reports as may be needed by the voyage management teams and hold responsibility for, the operation of voyage(s) as may be needed from time to time.
Job Requirement
• CoC Class 1 Master Mariner qualification or a Maritime Degree
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
• Break Bulk Cargo loading and discharge experience including heavylift and project cargo. Wind mill cargo handling experience will be an added advantage
• Strong cargo handling and stowage experience and skills
• Strong computer knowledge – including knowledge of loading programmes.
• Awareness and knowledge in AUTOCAD, MSOffice, Lashcon etc.
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with people at all levels.
