Support clinical teams with external reviews, Quality Assurance visits and ensure processes and support in place for on-going monitoring and quality improvement methodology applies to action plans. Actively participate in the delivery of the corporate agenda on the quality and safety agenda alongside the quadrumvirate working closely with the obstetric lead for quality and safety to ensure that processes within Womens and Childrens services align. 1. 1. Clinical Scientific Quality Assurance 1.1. Take responsibility for and supervise Physics activities in Quality Control and Dosimetry in Radiotherapy, according to established protocols and ensuring safe delivery of the service. 1.2. Take responsibility for the development of the annual quality assurance programme including liaison with maintenance contract suppliers, radiotherapy physics engineers and radiotherapy 1.3. Undertake dosimetry measurements to a high degree of accuracy with suitable equipment. Organise, manage, perform and analyse quality control and other measurements and procedures on highly-complex patient-critical equipment. 1.4. Take responsibility for the revision of protocols and dosimetry techniques.Develop and revise working practices in accordance with national guidelines and codes of practice. 1.5. Ensure the accurate calibration of all dosimetry equipment and Radiotherapy treatment machines is maintained. 1.6.Act as local coordinator for inter-departmental audits and undertake audit visits to other Radiotherapy centres. General 1.7. Provide leadership in and day to day management of the machine Quality Control and Dosimetry section. 1.8. Provide scientific and managerial cover for Principal colleagues in the other sections. 1.9.To participate in the routine provision of the Radiotherapy Physics service as required. 1.10. Perform and advise on dosimetry measurements on patients. Provide advice to clinical staff and support developments in in-vivo dosimetry and megavoltage imaging. 1.11. Provide support to physics computing in Radiotherapy. Write software to the requirements of the Department and adapt existing software packages as required. Monitor and resolve problems on computing systems in Radiotherapy and Radiotherapy Physics. 1.12. Oversee acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment as appropriate. 1.13. Provide complex scientific and technical advice to Radiotherapy consultants and other clinical staff regarding patients treatment. 1.14. Act as liaison contact for identified radiotherapy equipment. Investigate and resolve complex problems on complex, patient-critical radiotherapy and associated equipment. 1.15. Act as an Operator and Medical Physics Expert under the definitions of the IR(ME)R regulations in accordance with Trust policies and practices. 1.16. Ensure compliance with accredited Quality Systems in the areas of work for which the post holder carries responsibility. Participate in the development and routine operation of quality systems. 5.2. Duties and Responsibilities: Audit and Guidelines Facilitate the development, implementation and monitoring of clinical guidelines across the Womens Directorate. To ensure the Directorate is aware of National and Regional guideline changes in practice that may influence local guideline development, to ensure practice remains up to date & evidence based To ensure a robust repository of guidelines within the Directorate is monitored and maintained, to provide assurance to the Division that the guidelines are up to date and in line with current practice. Work with the audit midwife to facilitate the clinical audit programme within the Directorate incorporating local and national audit requirements that support clinical effectiveness. work with the audit midwife in the facilitation of the development of Clinical Audit & Effectiveness activity plans, assisting the Trust Clinical Audit Team. Participate in inter professional working to ensure annual audit programmes incorporate audit and effectiveness projects to meet the organisations governance objectives. This will include: using national benchmarking data e.g., Royal College Guidelines, NICE recommendations, NCEPOD, NMPA, NHSLA and CQC outcomes and regulations. Consult and provide advice to clinical staff on the design and development of proposed audit projects. Surveillance 2.1 To support on the surveillance of alert organisms. This includes data collection, interpretation and feedback of communicable infections. 3. To communicate highly sensitive and complex information to women and their families clearly explaining the benefits and risks of different care approaches and the alternatives available recognising barriers to acceptance. To uphold these standards and support midwives/ nurses in achieving them. Represent the directorate on external professional groups and network with colleagues from other organisations as appropriate. Ensure that the womans voice is clear within any service developments, seeking opinion and views on any changes. Work collaboratively with other professional groups to maximise development opportunities and interprofessional learning opportunities. Maximise opportunities to share good practices and innovations with colleagues locally and nationally. Contribute to the development of a learning organisation, alerting the appropriate parties to resource issues which may affect this. Identify own training and professional development needs to maintain clinical credibility. Influence and nurture positive attitudes and behaviours within the teams and wider multidisciplinary team. Education and Development Participate in curriculum development and joint professional development activities with other agencies e.g. Learning and Development Department, Universities, CCGs and the Local Maternity System to maximise learning opportunities. Participate in regular performance and personal development reviews and work to achieve agreed objectives. Research and Practice Development Promote research/evidence based practice and audit outcomes to inform clinical practice and set clinical standards. Instigate or contribute to research initiatives and clinical audit programmes as appropriate. Quality Management Facilitate the development implementation, monitoring, evaluation and audit of nursing/midwifery policies, protocols, guidelines and standards ensuring that they meet current practice and professional regulations. Act as a resource for staff to access and raise awareness of national and local policies that will impact upon them and affect the delivery of patient care Ensure that quality standards are set and monitored and that clinical risk management and clinical audit are an integral part of practice developments. Establish effective communication and good working relationships with multi-professional colleagues within the Trust to support effective service delivery. Other Duties Provide cover for colleagues as appropriate. Assist in producing ad hoc reports and in project work. Undertake any other duties requested as appropriate to the banding eg Unit Co-ordinator
