Manager of Global Trade Compliance
Location: This is a Hybrid role based out of Newport News, VA, in accordance with the Ferguson Flex schedule; 3 days in office / 2 days remote.
Job Summary:
The Manager of Global Trade Compliance is responsible to ensure Ferguson Divisions are following Customs Laws and Regulations of imported/exported merchandise. This position is also responsible for the accurate classification of merchandise and customs clearance of all Ferguson Divisions imported product. This includes a duty exposure of over $60 million and compliance with all U.S. Government programs and regulations to ensure timely delivery of merchandise. This position will liaise with logistics and other internal functional groups, external service providers, vendors, regulatory agencies, and customs brokers to ensure that product flow meets the demands of the regulatory law ordinances to avoid risks that may result in fines and penalties to the organization.
This position provides analytical, research and organizational support related to customs and trade compliance to further the Company’s efforts on new and existing product development, vendor selection and risk management. This position identifies and manages compliance risks and recommends opportunities to improve workflows.
As an overview, Ferguson annually imports over $435MM of merchandise out of 52 unique ports across 17 countries in Asia, Europe and South America, processes over 5,000 US Customs entries and moves over 12,000 containers worth over $40MM in freight spend.
Primary Functions:
- Oversees, directs and maintains overall Customs Compliance Procedures to ensure all Ferguson Divisions are operating standard processes related to entry release of merchandise and has knowledge of all areas of the U.S. Customs Regulations, including the Harmonized Tariff Schedule, Section Notes, researches Customs binding rulings, and Export Regulations.
- Monitors regulatory and legislative changes. Communicates the changes internally as well as change processes to follow new regulations and laws.
- Direct supervision of 3 Import/Export Specialists who are responsible for Import Customs Compliance, Classification, Finance and daily brokerage operations, as well as Export operations.
- Ensure overall corporate compliance with proper recordkeeping, valuation, quantity, country of origin and classification.
- Supplier Management duties include working with freight forwarders, U.S. Customs Officers, Customs Brokers, internal and external customers on all matters pertaining to Customs Import and Export Regulations. Liaise with Company and outside Legal Counsel on customs business.
- Overall responsibility for implementing and managing all Customs & Border Protection programs such as corporate security procedures for C-TPAT Trade Compliance.
- Administer Customs training programs to Ferguson associates that include working across internal departments; Risk Management, Product Safety and Testing, Ferguson Global Asia. Sourcing, Accounting, Product Development, Distribution, and Logistics, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferred
- 3+ years of related experience in International Trade and Compliance; or equivalent combination of training, education or experience.
- Previous experience with export compliance, foreign classification and managing CBP relationships strongly preferred.
- Experience with Integration Point platforms a plus.
- Customs broker license strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Demonstrated experience with document audits and database design, management, and reporting
- Demonstrated technical writing, document control or standards management experience
- Ability to use sound judgment to make effective decisions within context of compliance and be able to support decisions with facts and details
- Analytical, problem solving, critical thinking and listening skills

$7,949.70 - $13,016.30
