The post holder will work within the Research team at the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Trust. The purpose of the job is to set up and maintain studies, including invoicing and study closure and data entry and query resolution. The Research Coordinator (RC) is a specialized research professional working with and under the direction of the clinical Principal Investigator (PI). While the Principal Investigator is primarily responsible for the overall design, conduct, and management of the clinical trial, the RC supports, facilitates and coordinates the daily clinical trial activities and plays a critical role in the conduct of the study. By performing these duties, the RC works with the PI, research nurses, research team, sponsor, and Trust to support and provide guidance on the administration of the compliance, financial, personnel and other related aspects of the clinical study. The RC is responsible for the coordination of specific clinical trials within their allocated Clinical Research Team. Working closely with the lead research nurse/practioner of each trial, they are responsible for ensuring their allocated clinical trials are set up and managed in accordance with regulatory, sponsor and RD&I Office requirements.

The role of the Research Nurse at The Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (RSCH) involves working with multidisciplinary teams to screen patients for research studies, monitor patients during studies, assist with clinical investigations as well as the collection and documentation of accurate data. As a band 5 research nurse you will work under the supervision of senior nursing staff and collaboratively with the multidisciplinary teams to manage a caseload of trial patients. From October 2024, the current NIHR Clinical Research Network will be changing to become the NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN). The RDN will continue to support the effective and efficient initiation and delivery of funded research across the health and care system in England for the benefit of patients, the health and care system and the economy, with a name that better reflects the scope and purpose of the network to support. KEY RESULT AREAS/MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform supervised research to a higher degree To contribute to organisation and teaching within the MATTU To contribute to the clinical commitments of the unit as directed To assist in the publishing of research in high quality peer-reviewed journals Be responsible for keeping up with current trends and research. To undertake research projects as directed by the lead consultant. To work with the MATTU in collecting data for relevant research studies whilst participating in relevant meetings to discuss data collection and utilisation. To assist with setting up and implementing new guidelines, standards, and protocols. To assist with promoting the MATTU through publication of research and unusual case findings. Demonstrate at all times the ability to work in a team and be committed to the provision of a professional and developing service. To be aware of risk management issues and report incidents according to Trust policy. The post-holder will be expected to have a role in teaching within the MATTU education programme and courses. Supervision of medical students may also be expected.

Please see attached Job Description and Person Specification for full details. The post is linked between the Oncology department at the Royal Surrey Cancer Centre and the department of Urology. There are also strong links with the University of Surrey so providing both a wealth of clinical data together with the resources of a University. The post holder will become an integral member of the brachytherapy team and by the end of the post will have gained certified training in both HDR and 1125 LDR Prostate Brachytherapy.There are a number of research projects in place or about to start, and the post holder will be actively involved with and/or run including: Completion of the focal brachytherapy trial We currently have a database with >5000 patients treated over the last 20 years. There is a medical statistician and medical writer to help with the research and publications. We are undertaking a study on Rectal Toxicity and Spacer Gel. The post holder will gain a comprehensive training in Prostate Brachytherapy with the aim of adding a certified skill set that could be used when applying and becoming a Consultant Clinical Oncologist.

Whilst the needs of the service are paramount, individual training needs of the Clinical Fellow are taken into account in the job plans. The post-holders main duties are to provide support to the research team and include (depending upon experience): Attend a minimum of one clinic per week, (subject to the relevant Royal College out of program experience guidance). For clinical trials- To facilitate clinical research in accordance with ICH - GCP To work with the research team and the supervisor to build the resources required for cancer frailty research trials Education and Training Disseminate research by preparing and presenting papers and posters for meetings, conferences and publications.
