The National Science and Media Museum (NSMM) will be reopening in January 2025 as Bradford becomes UK City of Culture 2025. The museum temporarily closed in June 2023 to undergo a once-in-a-generation transformation with huge changes through a £6 million capital project called 'Sound and Vision', including two new permanent galleries, a new passenger lift and improvements to the main entrance, thanks to support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

To support our Operations teams in delivering a world-class welcome when we reopen, we are recruiting a full-time Duty Manager at NSMM on a permanent basis.

As Duty Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Museum, ensuring the health and safety of all our public spaces and supporting the front facing teams to deliver a high-quality visitor experience.

Working within a team of Duty Managers, you will be jointly responsible for the line management of our Visitor Experience team.

About the role

Leading by example, you will maintain the standards fitting for a national cultural site by conducting regular walk arounds, engage with staff and visitors, and use your problem-solving skills and flexible thinking to take control of incidents as they arise throughout the day. You will champion our values, both with visitors and staff, and support our mission to ensure that the National Science and Media Museum is a welcoming and inclusive space for all.

About you

You will have good communication skills and an understanding how to motivate and develop people and teams. You will be flexible and adaptable, able to problem-solve and, with support and training, be able to deal with difficult situations as they arise. You will work well within diverse teams and will be able to build effective working relationships. Experience working within or implementing Health and Safety policies will be useful.

With the reopening of the museum with its own new shop, the Museum Retail team is looking for a new Retail Team Leader. You will manage our Retail Advisors to welcome visitors and provide them with an interactive and fun experience.

About the role

In this role, you will assist the Retail Manager by leading and motivating a sales team to deliver the day-to-day operation of our Museum Stores. You will also encourage excellent customer service, maximise revenue, championing customer interactions and maintaining visual merchandising to its highest standards.

About you

You will have good communication skills and an understanding how to motivate and develop people and teams. Bringing sales skills, you will be comfortable working to, and exceeding, sales targets. Excellent visual merchandising skills will be required, along with an understanding of best practice in the retail sector. You will be flexible and adaptable, able to problem-solve and support your team in handling customer questions or issues. You will work well within diverse teams and will be able to build effective working relationships.

This post is key in organising and planning delivery of the six work-packages that make up this programme of work. The main responsibilities (supported by the Principal Investigator (co-PI) and co-PI ) will include: Line management of band 7 researcher/s Co-ordination of the work of research nurses Project management and reporting Budget management Design studies in collaboration with work-package leads and methodologists Engage senior executives and healthcare teams in order to perform study set up at all sites Fieldwork oversight Oversee the ethics applications Lead on the collection of routine data across work-packages Lead on delivering presentations and supporting the writing of peer reviewed publications With the PI and co-PI, co-ordinate the trial and liaise with the clinical trials unit in the delivery of the feasibility study and full trial Establish and manage the patient panel Support the governance arrangements

Our renowned team of patient safety researchers has a new and exciting opportunity available within the Yorkshire Quality and Safety Research Group. We will lead the safety stream of work within the NIHR Policy Research Unit for Quality, Safety and Outcomes (NIHR PRU, QSO) which focuses on three linked areas of national importance: Health and Social Care Quality, Safety and Outcomes. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of policy and research, managing the delivery of research and evidence that addresses national policy priorities. There is scope within this role for shaping the direction and scope of the research and the focus of the role depending on the particular skills of the successful applicant and their own career development needs. The NIHR PRU, QSO is a partnership between Universities of Kent, Oxford, Leeds, Bradford, and Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Picker Institute Europe. The PRUs are funded to assist government and relevant bodies to draw on the latest evidence when making policy decisions about health and social care delivery. The role of the Policy Research Programme Manager will be to manage the delivery of a programme of research that is responsive to the needs of the DHSC and other national bodies. At the same time, the Policy Research Programme manager will manage the Senior Policy Research Fellow to plan the programme of research and ensure that they do so with reference to the programmes of patient safety research within the YQSR and the wider patient safety policy research landscape in UK, Europe and globally. The Policy Research Programme Manager will also liaise on behalf of the Patient Safety strand of the PRU QSO with the DHSC and wider academic network to ensure that we address future health and social care needs for evidence in the domain of patient safety. The Policy Research Programme Manager will lead a team including a Senior Research Fellow, a Senior Research Data Analyst and a Research Fellow (0.5FTE) to deliver the research. In turn, the role will be supported by senior academics locally and within the wider multidisciplinary team including academics from Universities of Kent and Oxford. The Patient Safety stream of the PRU is hosted within the Yorkshire Quality and Safety Research Group (YQSR) which boasts many externally funded patient safety research projects with research teams across Yorkshire and Humber. We are seeking a candidate who may be keen, as well as taking primary responsibility for the programme of work within the Policy Research Unit which will funded for two days per week, might also wish to develop their skills and career by providing senior support for research across our programmes of work within the wider Yorkshire Quality and Safety Research Group. This means that within your role you will have the opportunity to collaborate with and be a part of a large, multi-disciplinary team of researchers, clinicians and improvers. We are a friendly, multi-disciplinary team, with expertise including implementation (particularly behavioural) science, social research, health services research, safety science, digital patient safety solutions, health informatics, intervention development and evaluation. You will be based at the Bradford Institute for Health Research and will: Manage and implement the PRU safety theme, its staff and budget. Lead the development of joint projects with our academic partners and the DHSC that respond to national priorities for patient safety Maintain oversight and co-ordination of the projects to ensure milestones are met, liaising with senior academics at partner organisations. Build national capacity for safety policy research by supporting the development of the research staff working within your team. Communicate highly complex information, build relationships and achieve agreements among large groups of people including academics and policy makers Be responsible for the direct line management of research and administrative staff and support their career development Ensure all relevant approvals (such as ethics and research governance) are obtained and administrative tasks undertaken. Ensure that work is implemented to a high standard consistent with all Good Clinical Practice guidelines. Ensure effective communication between all partners and within the Research Theme. To achieve aims of this theme of work, the Policy Research Programme Manager will: Act as line manager to a Senior Research Fellow and provide leadership to the PRU Safety team Ensure the successful delivery of the PRU safety theme programme of work Liaise with academic partners, DHSC and policy makers to ensure that we address national priorities for research Lead or support in drafting papers for publication and present at relevant conferences. Be responsive to the reporting requirements for the PRU. Ensure that work is implemented to a high standard consistent with all GCP guidelines, governance and data protection requirements. Ensure effective communication of complex information between partners, to ensure planning and delivery of the research projects to time and budget. Act as expert in interpreting research evidence and national guidance for the development, planning and management of the programme. Generate new ideas for research in collaboration with the academic teams. Analyse and interpret complex information and present written and oral summaries of information to a variety of audiences including senior managers, policy makers and academics. Promote the work of the team nationally and internationally. Develop plans to maximise the impact of the research and translation of research into policy and practice; actively disseminate the research findings to a variety of audiences, linking in with other local and national initiatives. In addition to the duties/responsibilities above, key elements will also include: Quality Assurance Establish a project management system which identifies threats to the completion of the project and puts in place strategies to minimise these risks. Maintain a working knowledge of current legislation regarding participation in research including Good Clinical Practice, Research Governance and Data Protection. Ensure that staff receive the appropriate training with regard to changing legislation and research skills. Staff Management Line manage and develop a Senior Research Fellow and Research Fellow. Communication and Integration Act as a boundary spanner between the Quality and Safety Research Group, other partners in the PRU. Promote the work of the PRU for Yorkshire and the Humber. To undertake presentations as necessary and to liaise with national bodies/networks. Financial and General Management Agree budget setting and manage the budget appropriately, providing regular financial and project reports as required to appropriate bodies.
