What skills and experience we're looking for

The Trustees are seeking to appoint an inspirational, values led individual as the new Head of Science for Excelsior Academy to start as soon as possible.

This full-time role is an exciting opportunity to lead a large vibrant department in a highly inclusive, rapidly improving academy. We have excellent science facilities at Excelsior and teach science through to A level.

Our Trust has a strong cross academy science community and the new post holder will have the full support of our Trust Director of Science.

The successful candidate will be passionate about science education and the opportunities that success in science brings to learners across the key stages. They will possess the vision, knowledge, experience and tenacity to enable the science department to develop and deliver positive outcomes for our students at GCSE and A Level.

We are looking for an individual keen to progress on their leadership journey, who has the highest standards of professionalism, experience of working with teams and a proven record of effective practice. They will possess the interpersonal skills to inspire colleagues, an unwavering commitment to raising standards and improving the life chances of young people.

Excelsior Academy is Newcastle’s first purpose-built all through school, offering transformative education in a community that has experienced long term disadvantage and challenge. This post is key in organising and planning delivery of the six work-packages that make up this programme of work. The main responsibilities (supported by the Principal Investigator (co-PI) and co-PI ) will include: Line management of band 7 researcher/s Co-ordination of the work of research nurses Project management and reporting Budget management Design studies in collaboration with work-package leads and methodologists Engage senior executives and healthcare teams in order to perform study set up at all sites Fieldwork oversight Oversee the ethics applications Lead on the collection of routine data across work-packages Lead on delivering presentations and supporting the writing of peer reviewed publications With the PI and co-PI, co-ordinate the trial and liaise with the clinical trials unit in the delivery of the feasibility study and full trial Establish and manage the patient panel Support the governance arrangements
