Serves as an Airway Transportation Systems Specialist (FAA Enterprise Network Services) with the Technical Support Operations Group (TSOG). Performs a variety of functions directly related to the operation of the NAS. Responsibilities include integration, restoration, testing and evaluation of new advanced services or service components, hardware/software systems and processes. Applies comprehensive technical knowledge to protect the integrity of all components and systems to provide NAS service delivery. The work performed at this level requires technical expertise on complex systems and/or emerging technology, systems interrelationships and management of the NAS.

Performs work of broad scope and complexity with a high degree of independence. Provides the highest organizational level of technical support associated with analyzing, designing, developing, installing, repairing, fabricating, maintaining, modifying, or evaluating the most complex systems for which the FAA is responsible.

As a principal specialist/expert for major projects and/or program areas resolves unique technical problems without managerial intervention, providing coordination and suggesting solutions. Plans, coordinates, and performs work with a high degree of independence, keeping the supervisor advised of only the most critical issues. Can be called upon to assist with repair and/or restore service or systems, providing guidance on the availability of back-up systems, recommending reconfiguration to minimize service interruptions to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the NAS.

Carries out work in accordance with overall plans and objectives of the organization, resolving problems as they arise and making adjustments as necessary to handle unanticipated situations and organizational needs. This work includes responsibility for evaluating diagnostic data from multiple systems that are integrated to support a network of services or service products.

Collaborates with system users, planners, engineers, and contractor personnel for the acceptance of new or modified systems and provide assistance for resolving problems with the installation or improvements. Develops recommendations for enhancing efficiency of systems by modification and application of existing or emerging technology.

Provides training, mentoring, guidance and advice to FAA employees, contractors and other organizations as needed. Supervisor rarely reviews completed.

Integrates Operational Risk Management (ORM) into all planned activities ensuring that all customers users of services are included and involved in implementation and planning. Utilizes appropriate Personal Safety Training and supplied Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when engaged in restoration and maintenance activities. Ensures all involved parties utilize PPE for the task appropriately. Contacts are both internal and external. Represents the organization as the primary technical point of contact on projects, programs, and other work activities to coordinate and implement plans or to obtain information and resolve problems. Meets and consults with representatives of external organizations such as DoD, airport management, contractors, utility companies and foreign governments to resolve problems of mutual concern and to elicit cooperation and action favorable to FAA needs.

Duties may include climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, walking up several flights of stairs, working on elevated surfaces, and/or working in/out door environments. Work assignments can be physical and strenuous in nature. Work assignments may require a flexible work schedule, i.e. nights, weekends, variables start/stop times.

Performs other duties as assigned. Incumbent must possess a valid driver's license.

• Diagnose and repair to specifications.

• Diagnose and repair to specifications - brake and hydraulic, exhaust, primary and/or advanced fuel ignition and electrical, suspension and alignment, air conditioning and computer systems

• Adequately explain technical diagnoses and needed repairs to non-mechanical individuals

The Senior Consultant - ES&I T&D Technical Services must organize all tasks and schedules in carrying out substantial business analyses and delivering high-quality, client-ready work.  As our clients are often large with complex systems, the Senior Consultant - ES&I T&D Technical Services must demonstrate considerable potential to have the poise, independence, and business maturity to perform effectively and add value in the client environment.

• Study thermal overloads and recommend mitigations / transmission upgrades
• Develop / fine tune dynamic models for conventional and inverter-based resources (IBRs) and implement them for stability/transient simulation based analysis

What You Will Need:

• Due to nature of client engagements, must either be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident (Green Card)
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering AND 3-7 years United States Bulk Electric System (BES) professional work experience (excluding internships, co-ops, academic research, or fellowships); Or Bachelor's degree AND 7-11 years post graduation utilities work experience may be considered in lieu of engineering degree requirement
• In-depth knowledge of transmission and distribution systems from a planning and operations standpoint
• Familiarity with and ability to quickly become adept at FERC, NERC, and state regulatory requirements and processes
• Ability to travel
• Technical understanding and ability to learn various power systems engineering tools such as PSLF / POWERWORLD Simulator/ PSSE / ASPEN / TARA/ CAPE / DSA Tools / PSCAD or EMPT
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills
• Currently reside in the contiguous United States. Candidates within 50 miles of a Guidehouse office may be required to work a hybrid work schedule instead of 100% remote.
• Staff level of hire will be determined through Guidehouse interview process

What Would Be Nice To Have:

• Master’s degree in electrical engineering or power systems engineering
• Consulting experience within the utilities industry
• Work experience with transmission and distribution systems from a planning and operations standpoint
• Knowledge of resource interconnection and expansion planning practices and protocols
• Familiarity with transmission development, including competitive development
• Working knowledge of ISO/RTO operations and functions, especially CAISO
• Post graduation work experience using one or more of the following power systems engineering tools: PSLF / POWERWORLD Simulator/ PSSE / ASPEN / TARA/ CAPE / DSATools / PSCAD or EMPT

Responsibilities

• Prepares and makes deliveries to customer accounts on assigned route using a company vehicle (non-cdl)
• Packages radiopharmaceutical medication for shipment, performs testing, and loads/unloads containers
• Uses a handheld tablet to scan customer orders for accuracy, obtain route stop information and navigation 
• Processes packages returned from customer locations
• Maintains vehicles in proper working condition and may perform minor roadside repairs
• Performs general facility cleaning and other duties as required

  Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must hold a valid driver's license and have a good driving record
• Minimum of  21 years of age due to driving of company owned vehicle
• Prior delivery driving experience a plus
• Ability to lift containers weighing up to 75 pounds
• Comfortable driving in all weather conditions during day or night hours
• Ability to sit, stand, be mobile and operate a vehicle for extended periods of time
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to work weekends or be in a weekend rotation required
• Ability to work holidays or be in a holiday rotation required
• Ability to work on call or be in an on call rotation required
• Flexibility to work various shifts or overtime as needed
• Ability to use computers and tablets
• A Covid-19 vaccination is required in order to be employed in this position. This includes either:
  • 2 doses of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine
  • 1 dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine
