ANTARCTICA: Facilities Manager (Contingency Hire)
Responsible for supporting and maintaining all USAP temporary and permanent infrastructure and equipment. In doing so, the employee shall optimize infrastructure and equipment for energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact to the greatest extent practical. The candidate shall provide facilities engineering services to maintain and improve the efficient and reliable operation of facilities and utilities systems.
Prioritize and track maintenance activities to ensure a safe environment for Station personnel and minimize disruptions to Station operations. Develop budgets requests and plan work to support organization goals. Identify annual metrics to measure performance.
Allocation of offices and furniture, food services, janitorial, painting, structural floor coverings, interior and exterior finishes, electrical services, locksmith services, plumbing, move services and maintenance or repair activities.
For maintenance projects, the candidate shall be familiar with project performance analysis, cost and contract management, and risk analysis/mitigation for the purpose of general management, as well as detection and notification of problems.
Ensure facility operations and maintenance activities are performed in a safe manner through proper job planning, identification and supply of PPE, and routine inspections.
Provide site coordination with construction contractors executing capital projects on the ice to minimize impacts to operations.
Maintain and update a technical library including O&M technical manuals, facilities descriptive books, and a submittal register of NSF-approved materials and finishes. Provide pertinent information for timely updates to facility as-built documents.
Support Master Planning for McMurdo and major logistics platforms on a ten-year rolling basis. Including identify deferred maintenance, changing requirements and technologies to reduce life-cycle costs, and evaluate alternatives and cost estimates related to infrastructure recapitalization to guide NSF decisions.
Support planning, design including risk identification, and execution of major construction projects in the Antarctic Infrastructure Recapitalization (AIR) program, as well as additional MREFC-scale projects as assigned. In executing construction projects, the candidate shall support the team in minimizing negative impacts on science support to the extent possible.
Support pre-deployment verification and validation to ensure that infrastructure components, hardware/software, and equipment are appropriately verified as functionally ready to perform under the austere and potentially harsh conditions of the Antarctic.

- Responsible for planning, managing, and performance of:
- Coordination of capital projects and scheduling equipment and support
- Services-janitorial, grounds, snow removal, staff relocations, shipping and distribution
- Maintenance-Prevention and corrective actions assessment performed by trades persons and engineers.
- Property Management-Real and personal property
- Site Security
- Engineering
- Facility planning and oversite-roads, airfields, ports, utilities, fuel systems etc.
Required skills for this job are typically acquired by completion of an undergraduate degree in engineering and 8+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of work experience and education .
