Location Negotiable: One position will be filled with the duty station of any USGS location in Nebraska, Kansas, or Oklahoma and one position will be filled with the duty station of any USGS location in Florida or Georgia. As a Physical Scientist (National Map Liaison) within the National Geospatial Program, some of your specific duties will include:

• Serve as a point of contact and representing USGS National Geospatial Program to a diversity of public, private, and non-profit stakeholders, including on external committees and working groups, and also with the general public.
• Build and sustain partnership networks to support NGP National Map programs, goals, and products, and participate in and leading opportunities to cooperate on development of geospatial data, including coordinating agreements.
• Educate users on National Map and other NGP products and services through outreach and technical geospatial consultation, for example, presenting and leading workshops at meetings, technical sessions, discussion groups, etc.
• Receive and relay feedback on National Map products and services from users and report geospatial user trends to NGP program areas.
• Participates on internal User Engagement collaborative teams such as developing National Map-related communication products, creating workshops, and researching user needs

Starting at $62,107 Per Year (GS 12-13)

As a Physical Scientist, within the Observing Systems Division, Hydrologic Remote Sensing Branch, some of your specific duties will include:

• Integrate approaches that span the interface between data science techniques and traditional domain-based techniques into priority projects.
• Develops long-range (5-10 years), large-scope project proposals and work plans which includes consideration of state of the art experimental and theoretical analyses, changing mission needs, evaluation of data from various sources, and the development of new procedures to meet novel requirements.
• Designs analytical models, use cases, and scenarios for data collection and or assimilation, reporting, and decision making in support of a variety of initiatives involving changes in policies, water conditions, and scientific methodology.
• Employs empirical and process-based theories to plan, coordinate, and execute segments or pursue scientific and research questions associated with science priorities.
• Conducts interpretive studies as needed to support studies and prepare written products to convey research-based knowledge and information to a variety of audiences.
• Serves as a senior technical expert in national data processing workflows and use of database applications.

Physical Demands:
The work is typically performed in an office setting with no special physical demands. However, work may also be performed in the field which involves periods of walking, bending, climbing, or driving motor vehicles to worksites. The incumbent may operate a government vehicle as an incidental driver to attend off-site planning meetings and collaborative programming sessions. Employees who operate a motor vehicle on public roadways require a valid drivers' license. The work may also involve some overnight travel for training, meetings, and site visits.

Work Environment:
The work is usually performed in an office setting. However, work time may also be spent periodically visiting field sites to observe data collection procedures. Field site visits are typically performed in either an outdoor setting subject to weather changes, diverse terrain, and safety hazards
associated with working around complex features and/or construction, or an industrial setting subject to noise, fumes, and moving machinery. Both settings may require the use of personal protective equipment. Safety precautions and protocols are always observed, and the scientist complies with
safety instructions and regulations and ensures individual and others' safety by promptly reporting unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and accidents to the supervisor.

As a Hydrologist within the Utah Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

• Assists higher level Hydrologists in conducting hydrologic studies by collecting hydrologic data in the field, recording, analyzing, and interpreting hydrologic data, researching records, and compiling statistical data, and preparing and editing portions of the hydrologic report.
• Collects hydrologic data using a variety of methods and equipment such as measuring the discharge of streams having a variety of depth and flow conditions; collecting and analyzing geologic samples to delineate and correlate aquifer systems and describe water-bearing characteristics; measuring water levels in observation wells, collecting pumpage records and other geohydrologic data; and collecting and analyzing water samples for the analysis of sediment concentration or chemical quality.
• Writes portions of interpretive reports of hydrologic studies and prepares hydrologic information in the form of maps, charts, or graphs for inclusion in reports.
• Computes, analyzes, and interprets records of streamflow, water levels, pumpage, sediment quantities, or biological and chemical quality to assist in the scientific evaluation of hydrologic phenomena.

As a Supervisory Physical Scientist within the New York Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

• Serve as part of the management team of the New York Water Science Center in the role of supervisor of the Integrated Water-Quality Research Section.
• Assist the Integrated Science Branch Chief in the scientific, technical, and administrative direction at the Center level of all integrated water-quality research projects of the NYWSC, including those carried out in cooperation with Tribal, local, State, and other Federal agencies.
• Assist the Integrated Science Branch Chief in identifying, stimulating, promoting, developing, and maintaining programs of integrated water-quality research. Promote and maintain cooperative relationships with representatives with the Tribal, local, State, and other Federal agencies.

As an IT Cybersecurity Specialist within the Office of the Associate Chief Information Officer, some of your specific duties will include:

• Develops, implements, and evaluates the security programs of the bureau/office, including the implementation of security programs designed to anticipate, assess, and minimize system vulnerabilities such as intrusion detection or access authentication programs;
• Provides advice and instruction to employees and supervisors on security issues, and establishes and maintains liaison with internal and external groups working on legal, internal audit, physical security, and other information security matters, as assigned;
