Main Duties of the Job: Formulate, implement, and monitor progress of the SUS and CC projects to ensure that programmes and project work streams are planned, documented, and managed effectively to assist in their successful delivery. MANAGERIAL Provide effective leadership to the team. Work closely with their collages across the mental health care division Formulate and implement local clinical and operational practices and procedures as appropriate. Ensure the effective deployment of staff and other resources to deliver the required service and the agreed standards. This would involve the review and management of rotas and deployment of staff. Manage and co-ordinate all services delivered to the service user within the clinical area, optimising all available resources. Ensure the implementation, monitoring and updating of an operational policy / pathways and philosophy for the clinical area. Ensure the principles of Clinical Governance are incorporated in service delivery by maintaining a high quality service based on agreed clinical standards. Ensure that service users are cared for within the confines of their respective Mental Health Act status and adhere to the requirements of the MHA 1983 and the corresponding Code of Practice. Ensure that Trust policies and procedures are understood and adhered to by all staff within their scope of responsibility. Develop local protocols involving team members and acute trust to ensure a high standard of service delivery is achieved and maintained. Lead and ensure staff participation in the formulation of new ideas/ suggestions to improve service user care and service delivery. CLINICAL To lead the development of the Service and ensure a high level of clinical leadership within the given area of expertise to other staff within the Service. To provide a specialist liaison mental health screening assessment, including risk assessment and differential diagnosis, using diagnostic criteria, assessment tools and rating scales. Independently assess, plan and identify mental health needs, facilitate appropriate care and treatment. Non-Medical Prescribing: Registered practitioners who are Non-Medical Prescribers are accountable for their prescribing activities by ensuring they are aware of their professional accountability and any restrictions or special considerations in their prescribing practice. Qualified Non-Medical Prescribers must register their qualification with their Professional Body and with the Trust Database in accordance with the Trust Non-Medical Prescribing procedure. Supplementary prescribers must work within Clinical Management Plans in close association with a medical practitioner. To acting in a consultative capacity as a specialist mental health clinician within the general hospital setting and team, to include advice on medication and contributing to diagnosis. Supporting the development of a skilled and flexible workforce, supporting junior staff to achieve their full potential in line with the Liaison Competency and Nursing career framework. Take an active role in education in line with key performance indicators To develop and maintain partnership working with a wide range of statutory and voluntary agencies. Making unsupervised decisions in respect of patients clinical priority and the suitability for inclusion into and discharge from specialist mental health services. COMMUNICATION AND ORGANISATIONAL To engage in a high level of communication with Senior Management both in the Trust and services in the community. KEY DUTIES Assist the trained staff in the smooth running of the clinic. Assist the clinician with any process and procedures necessary for the examination, investigation and treatment for patients. Give appropriate information, advise when necessary, including health education and health promotion information to patients both verbally and written. Carry Out appropriate Diagnostics using IT related equipment Prepare and ensure all the clinics are ready with relevant ophthalmic devices Utilising IT skills ensure patient electronic records are available for consultation and contain relevant information prior to the commencement of the clinic. Under the direction of the nurse in charge of the clinic, assist the clinician in any patient procedures and chaperone patients when required ensuring patient privacy and dignity is maintained. Carry out appropriate patient care after appropriate training under the supervision of the nurse in charge. Carry out preoperative assessment for patients who are listed for surgery with relevant ophthalmic investigations. To complete any necessary documentation in accordance with the Trust Policy. To act at all times in the best intreat of patients are their carers ensuring high quality service is provided. Put away stores when delivered according to hospital policy being aware of COSHH. Identify that stock levels are correct and inform senior staff if anything needs to be ordered CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Ensure that nursing care is appropriate, provided and is consistent with clinical guidelines. The post holder will practise as an HCPC Registered BMS in Haematology/ Blood Transfusion mainly at Conquest Hospital. They will be required to work at Eastbourne District Hospital as service needs dictate. They will work closely with the Biomedical Scientists Team Leaders to observe and implement the policies and procedures relevant to the role these include the Blood Transfusion Policy, the departmental Health & Safety Policy and Quality Policy. The post holder must also comply with practices and procedures as dictated in the departmental Standard Operating Procedures. Additionally, they will liaise with the Blood Sciences Lead and Deputy Leads, Senior Biomedical Scientists, the Training and Quality Leads and Clinical and Nursing staff to develop and integrate the services provided by the Team.
