The post holder will provide specialist clinical physiology knowledge within respiratory and sleep and will ensure best principles of care are provided to patients at Medway Maritime Hospital and two new Community Diagnostic Centres. The successful candidate must be able to work flexibly and the expectation is that they will be required to work day and night shifts depending on demand. This will also include working across our multiple sites. Additional training will be provided in each area as required. Undertake and perform a range of basic to complex respiratory investigations, such as Full lung function testing (Spirometry, static lung volumes and gas transfer), Bronchodilator reversibility testing, FENO, 6 Minute walk test etc. Including providing a full technical analysis and report of results for medical staff, contributing to the diagnosis and treatment of these patients. To independently perform a range of routine, non-routine, and more complex sleep investigations, contributing to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with sleep disorders including Overnight Oximetry, Actigraphy, Limited Polysomnograhy and Overnight Polysomnography Studies with MSLT as necessary. Independent full interpretation and analysis is expexted (scoring). To recommend patients on use of CPAP, set-up CPAP therapy and manage follow up consultations in patients with OSA and OHS. This will be in the form of New Patient and Annual Review Clinics Monitor patients who are undergoing an overnight polysomnography study. Ensure that the recordings produced during the study are of sufficient quality to be analysed accurately, and if necessary make adjustments to the equipment attached to the patient during the study. Make judgements on the severity of results, ensuring medical staff are informed immediately of any life threatening or urgent investigation results. Ensure that all the correct procedures for dealing with urgent and non-urgent results are adhered to. Take responsibility for the cleaning of all sleep equipment and ensuring it is kept in working order, liaise with EME reporting and faults and problems promptly. To assess investigation requests, checking there are no contraindications or risks, and to assess patients regarding their fitness to perform the tests.

Medway Imaging Department is well equipped with 2 x CT Toshiba machines (1 x 64 slice & 1 x 126 slice), 2 MRI machines (1xGE 3T HDXT & 1x1.5 T Siemens Magnetom Aera), An Ultrasound Suite consisting of 5 Toshiba Ultrasound systems, 3 Fluoroscopy Suites and 2 Interventional Suites. The successful candidate would join a progressive department led by young and dynamic Consultant colleagues. Performing weekly stock checks for CPAP and sleep consumables. To support the sleep physiologist onleading the overnight polysomnography tests which includes hook up and monitoring of the patient. This test is performed in hospital overnight and therefore night shifts are required for this post. The qualified Associate Practitioner (AP) has knowledge and skills to work at a higher competency level than that of other CSWs. The AP has responsibility for actively participating in and ensuring the maintenance of protocol based clinical care. The AP will work as part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) within the ED and provide a seamless service to patients with proximal supervision from registered practitioners, within agreed protocols and with clearly defined lines of accountability for delegated work. The AP will work within all areas of the ED. The post holder will work in support of registered nurses, doctors and allied health professionals. APs will support training and undertake informal teaching, and act as supervisor and mentor to CSWs and students. The role is flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the ED system.
