We are looking for a full time ‘Therapy Assistant and Sensory Room Co-ordinator’ to join the clinical team supporting autistic children and young people in our school service in the heart of Nottingham.
The post involves split responsibility supporting the therapists (Speech and Language and Occupation Therapists) in their roles, and sensory room coordination. You will be based at Sutherland House School, working alongside speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and other assistants . You will be managed and supervised by a speech and language therapist but will work with all practitioners within the team. You will also have responsibility for planning activities for the multi sensory learning environment, leading sessions for some pupils within it, and overseeing the upkeep of the equipment in the room. You will support the delivery of direct and indirect therapeutic interventions, including resource making, under the direction of a named therapist. You will attend meetings, complete observations, contribute to support documents and maintain accurate records. We can offer a friendly and supportive team and opportunities for learning and professional development. We would welcome applicants with relevant skills and experience of working closely with autistic individuals. Experience supporting/co-working with an occupational therapist or speech and language therapist will be a significant advantage. An excellent knowledge of IT and confidence in learning to use specific software is also desired.

• To promote students’ independence skills in relation to personal hygiene, toileting and feeding

• To monitor the behaviour of students, encouraging positive behaviour and reporting any incidents

• To ensure the safety and well-being of children, providing support where necessary or signposting concerns to colleagues

• To liaise with external agencies, where appropriate, talking through therapeutic programmes and discussing programmes

• To write specific health care plans/Personal Evacuation Plans for key students

• To be responsible for the recording and distribution of medicines • To support students over break and lunch times

SUPPORT THE TEACHER

• Help with the collation of Review/Annual Review meetings

• Help with classroom resources and records

• To implement learning programmes a directed by the class teacher – with individual or small groups

• To monitor individual student’s needs and provide regular feedback to the teacher

• Contribute to the management of student behaviour

• To participate in the evaluation of the support programme

• To contribute to the maintenance and development of the Learning Support Faculty

SUPPORT FOR THE CURRICULUM

• Support and reinforce the school curriculum including catch up KS3/GCSE work, literacy, numeracy activities in a 1:1 setting and in the classroom

• Provide support for learning activities including enrichment activities during the normal school day

• Support the use and development of ICT within the classroom

• Support the smooth running of the Faculty by covering designated priority lessons of absent staff as and when required by the SENCo

• To take responsibility for display and up keep of designated areas in the Faculty

SUPPORT FOR THE SCHOOL

• Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and parents

• Maintain and safeguard the confidential nature of student/teacher/home issues

• Contribute to the maintenance of student safety and security, including break and lunchtime duties in the Faculty and taxi duties

Bluecoat Bentinck is excited to be seeking a self-motivated and passionate candidate who will fulfil the role SEND Specialist Provision Teaching Assistant of who, alongside the SENDCo, will lead SEND Provision across the academy. This is a newly created role designed to help us at Bluecoat Bentinck to achieve our aim of all pupils being able to thrive in their education.

The post holder will also work closely with teachers and TAs to support the delivery of high-quality provision for our students on the SEND register as well as those with emerging needs. They will be an excellent SEND practitioner with demonstrable experience and knowledge of what excellent personalised provision looks like for children who fall under the four broad areas of need.

The post-holder will model best practice to staff with regards to the planning and development of high standards in all aspects of pupil behaviour, attitude, learning and culture suitable for children with a broad range of need. They will regularly work alongside the SENCo to assess the needs of our most high profile SEND students and identify suitable provision to ensure their needs are being met and are progressing against their targets.
