We are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Science Technician to join our existing team. The main purpose of the role is to co-ordinate the use of practical resources and facilities to support our Science teaching. The successful candidate will be someone who is proactive, approachable, calm and professional.

You will ideally have experience of working in a school environment and have an awareness of health and safety issues relating to school science. Awareness of CLEAPSS and/or COSHH regulations would be an advantage

Your new role

• Provide coaching, mentoring, and line management to safety advisors within the team.
• Work closely with the existing leader to provide strategic guidance to the HSE team.
• Ensure the project aligns with regional health and safety goals.
• Support and guide project managers on all HSE matters.
• Ensure all work activities comply with company and site safety procedures, maintaining the highest standards of health & safety.
• Promote a Safety First culture, delivering toolbox talks and safety-related training as required.
• Track and report HSE metrics in line with regional requirements.
• Identify areas for improvement and develop initiatives to drive continuous improvement.
• Plan and conduct HSE audits, ensuring timely closeout of any actions.
• Promote safe card submission within the team, monitor all cards submitted, and follow up actions with relevant managers.
• Ensure excellent communication with project management, wider region, and client HSE representatives.
• Provide HSE support to the region as required, including travel to other sites within the region.

What you'll need to succeed

• NEBOSH & IOSH qualifications.
• Minimum of 5 years in a Senior HSE role.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience in the construction industry.
• Experience in nuclear, oil & gas, or other heavily regulated industries.
• Must be able to obtain Security Clearance.

About the Role

As a member of the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team within Cloud you would contribute to the delivery of cloud services delivered within SSE, the primary objectives are to help teams across the organisation adopt our cloud platform, providing best practice information and support; and to help improve our services through monitoring & automation. The role will provide the opportunity to be part of SSE's digital transformation and migration of applications to Cloud, ensuring the platform achieves the target standards of efficiency, resilience and availability required by the organisation.
This is a key role providing the right candidate the opportunity to contribute to projects across a number of areas and cloud platforms
As a team player, you will work closely with a team of strategists, architects, and engineers to craft technical solutions that accelerate our business.

- Take a technical leadership role within the team to help drive platform adoption and reduction of support issues.

- Identify and progress opportunities to drive continuous improvement across the team, delivery, and operational practices.

- Ensure all architecture and Cloud infrastructure accommodates the latest security and software lifecycle patterns.

- Support stakeholders to adopt and leverage the latest Cloud Native Application Architecture patterns, delivering scalable, resilient, and performant solutions. Acting as a trusted advisor to stakeholders, be able to provide regular progress updates and flag any issues accordingly.

- Provide support and best practice guidance for application teams on adopting our platforms.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Understanding of either Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure and Cloud Native Architectures is essential. A Cloud Certification in either Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure is desirable, but not essential.

- Knowledge of Operating Systems (Windows and/or Linux) is desirable, but not essential.

- Strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of operational support procedures.

- Knowledge of software development lifecycle and the ability to write software scripts in at least one general-purpose programming -language (Python, Go, Java).

- Strong communication skills to be able to collaborate with teams across the organisation to help support SSE's cloud adoption.
