We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Respiratory Physiologist to join the MKUH Lung Function Unit, for afixed-term 12-month contract covering Maternity Leave.

You will work as part of a team delivering a specialist physiologist-led respiratory service alongside the broader multi-disciplinary team to deliver exceptional care to a complex and diverse group of patients.Our service provides a large range of physiological studies including routine lung function tests, broncho-provocation tests, ABG/CBG, 6 min walk tests. We also offer a sleep service where the patients can have their sleep diagnostics, initiation on CPAP, and reviews of their therapy.

The Imaging department provides a wide range of services for patients within a variety of settings. Services provided range from simple radiography to complex procedures such as arteriography, CT and MRI or interventional procedures such as the introduction of intraarterial therapeutic devices, the implantation of indwelling feeding catheters and pain relief devices where the patient may be sedated or anaesthetised. These procedures may be performed as an outpatient appointment or may involve an in-patient stay and will require the postholder’s highly skilled standards of technique.



The MRI service is a patient focused service. Examinations are varied, ranging from Neuro, Pelvic and Abdominal, Musculoskeletal, Breast and Peripherals. Pre Manufacturing:

• Ensure that safety protocols and guidelines on site are followed during all activities.
• Collaborate with the team to design and set up efficient manufacturing layouts and processes.
• Actively participate in testing the Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
• Identify and report any issues, bugs, or improvements related to the MES.

Manufacturing operation post-launch:

• Adhere to site safety and food quality standards at all times.
• Ensure a safe, clean and organised manufacturing environment at all times.
• Complete required line start up checks.
• Operate loading, blending and/or packaging line equipment to blend and pack powdered food ingredients according to batch specifications.
• Monitor process parameters such as flow rates, blending times to ensure product consistency and quality.
• Perform routine equipment setup, adjustments, and maintenance to maximise efficiency and minimise downtime.
• Conduct quality checks on finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
• Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
• Record production data accurately and maintain production logs for traceability and quality control purposes.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to troubleshoot issues and implement process improvements.
• Ensure any quality issues or safety hazards are escalated to the management team in a timely manner.

To perform high quality diagnostic breast imaging to demonstrate or exclude breast cancer on all women attending the symptomatic or breast screening services, whilst maintaining a high standard of patient care.

As a Senior Mammographer, you will be expected to lead by example and work independently in accordance with departmental Standard Operating procedures and be accountable for your own actions, liaising with the Breast Imaging Service Manager, as necessary.

When working in the mobile screening unit you will be the lead specialist for breast screening, provide advice and assistance to colleagues as required.
• Participate in the Breast Imaging Services staff rotation both on the Mobile Unit and at the Breast Care Unit and undertake all associated admin and clinical duties as required.
• To transport clinic paperwork and other consumable items to and from distant sites in accordance with Caldicott principals and local guidelines.
• To work autonomously within own specialist area, consulting senior staff as and when necessary and will be accountable for own professional actions.
• Work swiftly and efficiently so that breast screening lists are completed in the allocated time and ensuring that Technical Repeat rates conform to NHSBSP standards of less than 3%.
• To be responsible for the safe use of all digital mammographic equipment and its peripheries.
• To be able to adapt mammography positioning technique according to client/patient requirements/limitations.
• Apply in-depth knowledge of anatomy and pathology to determine appropriate imaging techniques.
• To be able to advise on additional views when required in line with professional knowledge.
• To be competent in undertaking assessment of mammography images and interventional procedures using the stereotactic biopsy equipment.
• To have knowledge of aseptic technique for assisting with interventional procedures and have the ability to dress wounds and give advice on aftercare.
