The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.

As a Front Line Manager you will:

• Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work.
• Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.
• Evaluate work performance of subordinates and makes recommendations for outstanding performance recognition and/or disciplinary action.
• Give advice, counsel or instruction to employees on work and administrative matters.
• Interview candidates for positions within the organization/unit and recommend appointment, promotion or reassignment to such positions.
• Hear and resolve complaints from employees, refer group grievances and/or more serious unresolved complaints as appropriate.
• Effect minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, recommend other actions in more serious cases.
• Identify developmental and training needs of employees, providing or arranging for needed development and training.
• Initiate ways to improve production, work processes and/or to increase the quality of the work directed.

This Supervisory Federal Air Marshal (SFAM) position is located in the Atlanta Field Office, Field Operations Division, Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service (LE/FAMS), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Additional duties include but are not limited to:

• Directs the work of subordinate FAMs and performs supervisory duties including assigning tasks, setting priorities, monitoring and evaluating performance, coaching, and developing employee capabilities, approving leave, and taking and recommending corrective/disciplinary action.
• Establishes and maintains liaison with other federal, state and local law enforcement at all levels, including those from private industry.
• Articulates the LE/FAMS goals and objectives to local, state and federal law enforcement partners, as well as a myriad of transportation security stakeholders.

As a Research General Engineer in the Technical Division at the Coast Guard R&D Center, you will join a fast-paced, diverse, and collaborative group of scientists, engineers, computer scientists, and analysts to contribute to research in focus areas. This position will focus on contributing to and/or leading Defense and Safety Systems (DSS) applied research projects. The DSS Research Program aims to ensure the safety of Coast Guard members, the Maritime Transportation System (MTS), and the public now and into the future. Examples of defensive systems that will protect our assets from evolving threats include non-lethal vessel stopping technologies, counter uncrewed systems (C-UxS), directed energy systems, and cybersecurity systems in Operational Technology (OT). Safety systems efforts focus on improvements to mariner safety and increasing the probability of successful search and rescue, as well as assessing modern vessel construction techniques and materials that will ensure that the service knows how to regulate, respond to emergencies, and utilize advancements in ship design.

• Designing or directing the development of unique or leading-edge technology, equipment, or systems to meet specific mission requirements.
• Conducting systematic research in problem areas that are highly complex, answering important questions in the scientific field that lead to innovation.
• Serving as a senior engineer coordinating and integrating the planning, programming, development, oversight, scheduling, and overall management of resources for multi-phase projects.
• Guiding and evaluating contractor efforts by reviewing plans and cost estimates, reporting problems and/or progress, directing necessary changes and resolving controversial problems, and ensuring contractor efforts are in line with research program objectives.
• Utilizing correspondence with field experts and literature published with the agency, outside agencies, private industry, and research institutions to maintain knowledge of current technology and regulatory developments in the scientific field.

Key Responsibilities of an Assistant Manager

£33,618 - £34,866 per annum includes £1,170 service charge (based on service charge paid out 1/10/23 -31-12/23)
