An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Cellular Pathology Officer Lead to join the Cell Path team . The post holder will be responsible for ensuring robust systems are in place for the management and co-ordination of the Cellular Pathology office, providing comprehensive administrative support and knowledge to the Consultant Histopathologist's team, and management team in Pathology. To also provide leadership to the Cellular Pathology Admin & Clerical team in order to successfully achieve the current Histology cancer waiting times target and to provide high level, professional and confidential support to the Operational Manager and Lead BMS covering all aspects of the service provision, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality histology service.

There will be a requirement for some weekend working as part of this role ,this will be in line with the 6/7 day working in the Laboratory. This may involve, from time to time, working out of normal hours.

We are looking for someone with fantastic organisational skills and the ability to plan ahead whilst being reactive to change is imperative. Most importantly a great communicator most effectively with colleagues at all levels. You will need to be resilient, flexible, influential and informative as well as having a positive ‘can do’ attitude.

Communication and escalation to the senior pathology management team regarding the Histology Department’s performance and trends monitoring the 2 week waits turnaround times. (2WW TAT)/Cancer Escalations. Working towards supporting the lab with Digital Pathology.

Liaison with service users including the team external to pathology sensitive information including breaches to local and national benchmarks.

Responsible for working with colleagues across Pathology MSE and maintaining the Trust’s good relationships with external agencies including other Trusts.

Use a variety of approaches in liaising with histology users and colleagues within Pathology to gain the best outcome for the service in line with departmental objectives.

Produce, review and finalise high quality responses to complaints in line with the Trust’s procedures and protocols. Regularly promote and encourage open communication to ensure good wellbeing in the workplace.Support the delivery of both regular and adhoc information to clinicians and Managers for monitoring of service performance.

The successful candidate will be expected to integrate into the working of the respiratory department but also to develop their own interests. We are looking to attract an enthusiastic candidate with a wide experience of respiratory and general medicine. The job plan is illustrative of current working and that meets the needs of the Trust.

The Trust is open to accommodating the interests and skillset of the candidate. Currently, the post holder will be expected to do most of their clinical work at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital site. Contribution to an out of hours on call rota is core to this role.

Clinical
• Support the Respiratory Medicine service in clinics, wards and for in-patient and out-patient procedures.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) is the main provider of acute hospital services for around half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.

A formal job plan will be agreed between the successful candidate and their Clinical Director and consultant colleagues on behalf of the Medical Director within 3 months of starting in post. A full-time job plan is based on a 10 PA working week. The job plan is a prospective agreement that sets out the Consultant’s duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year. It covers all aspects of a Consultant’s professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. It will provide a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external and will include personal objectives, detailing links to wider service improvements and trust strategic priorities.
For a full-time contract, the job plan will be divided on average per week (pro-rata for a part time post) as:
• 7.5 Programmed Activities (PAs) of Direct Clinical Care – includes clinical activity, clinically related activity and predictable and unpredictable emergency work.
• 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs) - includes CPD, audit, teaching and research.
If additional hours are worked, consideration will be given to time of in lieu (TOIL) in place of additional payments if requested.
