About the role:
Cadent have an exciting opportunity for a Customer Operations Area Manager to join their team supporting their South Hertfordshire area within the East of England network.
As a Customer Operations Area Manager supporting South Herts you will play a key role in managing the delivery of Emergency, Repair and Household Connections workloads (and associated activities) within a geographically bound Area. Operating the Area in an effective and efficient manner in order to deliver against the network’s strategic ambitions and Regulatory outputs.
The role holder will also manage and control the budget for the Area and ensure its effective delivery taking in to account safety and compliance. To ensure public safety on behalf of Cadent in accordance with the Gas Safety Management Regulations through provision of 24/7 emergency service to respond to gas emergencies and incidents on the gas network. Additionally, to balance reactive workload with planned or customer appointed work in line with any network plans and to the satisfaction of our customers.

What you'll get to work on:
- Efficient delivery of the operational budget and financial management for their Customer Operations Area.
- Providing visible frontline engagement with Supervisors, Field Force, customers and key stakeholders both internal and external to deliver the Cadent vision and culture and priorities of safety, compliance, customer, performance and efficient workload delivery. This includes providing input to the medium to long term planning of work schedules and targets for defined geography
- Managing the reactive work all year round, as well as the planned aspects of the Network Business Plan on time, within budget and to the quality required to meet operational and regulatory requirements while ensuring the safety of the public, direct labour and contracted resources during such activities.
- Develop an effective and highly motivated workforce, delivering year-on-year cost efficiencies and improvements in productivity and resource utilisation whilst maintaining first-class operational excellence, safety, and customer satisfaction. Which will include ensuring that contractors and their works are managed safely and effectively in line with Cadent policies and procedures.
- Delivering the operational elements of the customer strategy and the associated customer satisfaction scores.
- Ensuring data recording and accuracy is appropriate and complete to support accurate management and regulatory reporting through management of Supervisors.
- Be responsible for the completion of workplace inspections to demonstrate compliance with the required standards/company procedures.
- Ensure individuals comply with Cadent policy and work procedures and achieve company standards of service throughout all activities. This includes managing sickness/absenteeism and disciplinary procedures for direct reports, to ensure compliance with company policy.
- Providing onsite incident supervision and investigation in adherence with EM77 procedure in response to reports requiring escalation. i.e. Fire, Explosion, Suspected CO poisoning, Evacuation, etc.
Who are we looking for:
- HNC / NVQ or equivalent in an engineering discipline
- Strong leadership, management and influencing/negotiating skills to build and maintain effective relationships across all stakeholder groups to deliver business outcomes including Trade Unions.
- Understanding of relevant codes of practice, engineering instructions safety and statutory regulation
- Engender and promote a safety conscious culture and environment, ensuring safety of those impacted by our activities.
- Experience in managing a large, geographically dispersed workforce in a safety-conscious and high risk environment
- Afluent in the understanding of HSE regulations relevant to role with knowledge of NRSWA, CDM, SCCF, SCO and OSGEM 2
- Project Management discipline including knowledge of methods, processes and techniques to deliver to time, cost and quality measures. Including Change management knowledge, experience of Cadent’s Change Management Framework and an understanding of Planning and Resource Management process
- Ability to consider commercial aspects of our decisions and be an “intelligent buyer” for services from internal stakeholders and external organisations.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement techniques to drive incremental and step change improvements in performance
