Medical Technologist (Ancillary Testing Coordinator), GS-12

Duties include but are not limited to the following description:

The incumbent is a qualified, experienced Medical Technologist who serves as the Ancillary Testing Coordinator for the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service. Ancillary testing is defined as laboratory testing or services within a VA Medical Center or its outreach functions at CBOCs that is performed outside the physical facilities of the main clinical laboratory. The incumbent develops and recommends policies and procedures for the procurement and service requirements for ancillary testing, including ensuring CLIA licenses are maintained in all sites. The incumbent serves as the technical advisor to all ancillary testing sites. The incumbent maintains adequate skills to work in Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Phlebotomy, Microbiology and logging in surgical/cytology specimens. Incumbent also supports the laboratory manager and serves as acting supervisor.

Functions include but are not limited to the following description:

• The ATC consults with the laboratory Director of clinical services to identify ancillary testing needs and to analyze emerging trends and technology and adopts appropriate methods, serving as a recognized technical expert to provide authoritative advice, training, troubleshooting, quality assessment and ancillary testing program consultation.
• The ATC develops technical bulletins, procedures, training materials and other program materials, ensuring accreditation and compliance with all regulatory agencies for patient testing, result reporting and proficiency testing including reports, monitors and continuous performance improvement initiatives.
• Acts as the technical supervisor for quality control, records control, proficiency testing, inspection and accreditation for ancillary testing on a hospital-wide basis and oversees the safe and accurate testing of outreach function patients in the clinic.
• Assesses data needed, designs data collection procedures, identifies quality assurance monitors and indicators, and reviews all data analyzed with the laboratory Director.
• Knowledge of the types of surveillance, ability to collect data necessary to monitor variables that affect quality of services, and skill in evaluation, interpreting and teaching others to use quality control procedures and implementing corrective actions.
• Knowledge of Federal, VHA and state laws, regulations, reference standards and medico legal responsibilities, and certifying and accrediting agency requirements in order to carry out the work in each ancillary testing site.

Job Description Text Perform a variety of pharmacy support duties, some of which may be patient facing. These include stock management, dispensing and/or preparation of medicines in a designated area of MMPS which may include dispensary, aseptic facilities, warehouse and dispensary support rooms at ward level. Day to day supervision of Pharmacy Services Assistants and Pharmacy Porters to ensure service delivery in relevant area of MMPS There may also be distribution duties including the movement of goods and a requirement for general housekeeping duties. Key homecare duties include:- Processing homecare prescriptions Liaising with pharmacists and technicians Liaising with wider clinical teams, e.g. nurses Liaising with homecare suppliers Liaising with invoicing team Liaising with patients Monitor and maintain pharmacy databases in relation to homecare services Supporting the assistant practitioners and specialist technician on the day-to-day provision of homecare

There will be commitment to a minimum 2 general cardiology per week as well as a contribution to the general cardiology Specialty Registrar rota (full shift). The successful applicant will also be expected to support inpatient care under the supervision of the consultant team. An expanding research and clinical trials programme is in place in which the successful candidate will be expected to participate fully, with a protected session for research and audit in the timetable. A tailored training programme can be negotiated around this service provision. LEVELS OF RESPONSIBILITY This will depend upon prior experience and can be discussed. It is expected that the levels of responsibility will be that of ST6 or above, and the successful candidate will receive supervision from a named consultant with responsibility to develop the individuals training e-portfolio or equivalent. To provide a comprehensive and high quality medical secretarial service to support clinical teams (Consultants, their medical teams e.g. junior medical staff or specialist nursing staff as appropriate) in delivering high quality care to the patients of Leeds and beyond. This role will additionally make a key contribution in improving the patient experience by supporting Directorate teams with the movement of patients through their 18-week pathway or other national waiting time standards as appropriate. The post-holder will: Work as part of a team to ensure that all clinical correspondence is turned around in a timely manner to allow patients to move through their pathway without any delays Work with Consultants and their medical teams. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Clinical Correspondence & Support to Clinical Services Typing/proofreading clinical correspondence relating to outpatient and inpatient attendances and other patient related correspondence on behalf of the consultant and clinical teams. Use a range of IT skills to support the clinical work of the consultant e.g. use of databases and spread sheets. Support administrative process as deemed appropriate by the PSC. To support the clinical teams in the delivery of excellent patient care by actively working with colleagues and other Departments to ensure that all patients registered within the service are proactively supported through their patient journey (This would include but is not limited to: ensuring that follow-up and/or discharge appointments have been made for patients when required escalating to the Patient Services Co-ordinator where appointments have been booked outside the requested timescales). Any other general administrative duties associated with the consultant/clinical team outpatient and inpatient workload. Answer phone calls and deal with enquiries relating to patients and clinical work from a variety of sources, directly resolving where possible or transferring to appropriate personnel. Maintaining an effective administration service In conjunction with other Team Medical Secretaries and under the supervision of the Patient Services Co to work collectively as a team proactively planning workloads to meet different deadlines and timescales. Create and maintain appropriate record systems relating to clinical workload e.g. tests and results spread sheets Provide guidance to clerical support officers as necessary. Ensure that health records are tracked on entering and leaving the Department and stored in an appropriate manner in line with Trust Policy and patient confidentiality. Ensure that health records are always maintained to a high standard. All documentation and investigation results must be securely filed in the correct section in chronological order. Support Data Quality Indicators by ensuring that patient information is accurate and updated on relevant paper and computerised systems. Access information systems to obtain clinical information as required by the medical teams including investigation results or other information e.g. from results server, PPM or WinDIP. Work as part of the team to ensure that all phone calls are answered within the department during core office hours. Provide information to PSC/Assistant PSC, as appropriate, relating to workload and work outstanding. Provide cover for other team secretaries/clerical staff when on annual leave or sick leave. Duties include, but are not limited to:

The incumbent Medical Technician is assigned to Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service of the VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System in Leeds, MA. They must be familiar with basic laboratory operations. In addition to performing phlebotomy, the incumbent must be able to process and package specimens for shipment. The incumbent may be assigned to various duties and duty stations according to the needs of the laboratory. Veterans ages eighteen through geriatric years are served with all diagnoses found in late adolescence, early mid-life, and late adulthood. It is expected that the incumbent will:

• Perform phlebotomy from outpatients ensuring that the blood is placed in the proper vacutainer and correctly labeled.
• Be proficient in the art of phlebotomy, being able to draw even the most difficult patient. Incumbent must be productive, promptly moving patients along to avoid un-necessary patient waiting times.
• Provides a friendly, helpful, and respectful working environment.
• Be able to instruct patients on proper specimen collection, on those specimens the patient must collect.
• Evaluate suitability of specimen for testing.

• Monitor supplies and stocks the phlebotomy area accordingly at the end of the workday.

• Adhere to hospital and lab policies concerning chemical and biohazard safety.
• Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Laboratory Manager.

This role will additionally make a key contribution in improving the patient experience by supporting Directorate teams with the movement of patients through their 18-week pathway or other national waiting time standards as appropriate. The post-holder will: Work as part of a team to ensure that all clinical correspondence is turned around in a timely manner to allow patients to move through their pathway without any delays Work with Consultants and their medical teams. Manage their workload in line with departmental requirements or as identified by the Senior Medical Secretary. Deal with patient enquiries. Play a key role in ensuring that patients move systematically through their pathways by ensuring that the next steps are in the pipeline. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Clinical Correspondence & Support to Clinical Services Typing/proof reading clinical correspondence relating to outpatient and inpatient attendances and other patient related correspondence on behalf of the consultant and clinical teams. Use a range of IT skills to support the clinical work of the consultant e.g. use of databases and spread sheets. Support administrative process as deemed appropriate by the PSC. To support the clinical teams in the delivery of excellent patient care by actively working with colleagues and other Departments to ensure that all patients registered within the service are proactively supported through their patient journey (This would include but is not limited to: ensuring that follow-up and/or discharge appointments have been made for patients when required escalating to the Patient Services Co-ordinator where appointments have been booked outside the requested timescales). Any other general administrative duties associated with the consultant/clinical team outpatient and inpatient workload. Answer phone calls and deal with enquiries relating to patients and clinical work from a variety of sources, directly resolving where possible or transferring to appropriate personnel. Liaise with GPs, hospital staff and others on behalf of consultant in relation to clinical workload. Maintaining an effective administration service In conjunction with other Team Medical Secretaries and under the supervision of the Patient Services Co to work collectively as a team proactively planning workloads to meet different deadlines and timescales. Create and maintain appropriate record systems relating to clinical workload e.g. tests and results spread sheets Provide guidance to clerical support officers as necessary. Ensure that health records are tracked on entering and leaving the Department and stored in an appropriate manner in line with Trust Policy and patient confidentiality. Ensure that health records are maintained to a high standard at all times. All documentation and investigation results must be securely filed in the correct section in chronological order. Support Data Quality Indicators by ensuring that patient information is accurate and updated on relevant paper and computerised systems. Access information systems to obtain clinical information as required by the medical teams including investigation results or other information e.g. from results server, PPM or WinDIP. Work as part of the team to ensure that all phone calls are answered within the department during core office hours. Provide information to PSC/Assistant PSC, as appropriate, relating to workload and work outstanding. Provide cover for other team secretaries/clerical staff when on annual leave or sick leave. Additional duties Any other duties that from time to time may be deemed necessary by the Trust/Directorates that is commensurate to the role. 10110–40 hour - Regional Relief Trainee Pharmacy Assistant – Permanent Contract

We are looking to recruit a 40 hour Regional Relief Trainee Pharmacy Assistant on a permanent contract to work between all of our branches in region 19 which covers 11 branches in Leeds, Burley in Wharfedale, Guiseley, Menston and Otley area.

Usual working hours can range between 09:00 to 17:00, or 09:00 to 18:00.

Due to the travel nature of the role it would be ideal if you held a full driving licence complete with access to your own vehicle.

You are required to use your own vehicle for this role; therefore, if appointed your personal insurance policy must allow for business use. It is advised that you contact your insurer to obtain information regarding this prior to attending an interview. Please note that "business insurance" refers to the vehicle only, and not the contents. The Company will make a financial contribution to the business aspect of your insurance upon receipt of a document demonstrating any increased premium.

Reimbursement for mileage undertaken on business journeys will be at a rate of 40p per mile up to 10,000 miles, after which 25p a mile will be reimbursed as per HMRC guidelines. Fuel receipts should be obtained for each visit to the petrol station visit and the mileage claim submitted on a weekly basis.

Whilst working in this branch you will gain excellent knowledge and skills which will contribute to you successfully gaining the recognised Counter Course and NVQ level 2 qualification in Dispensing.

This position is ideally suited to someone with previous customer service experience and who is willing to undertake the relevant training courses in order to progress.

Duties will include the accurate dispensing and labelling of prescription items with guidance and supervision from the Pharmacist. The successful candidate will also be responsible for assisting with the ordering and management of stock levels within the dispensary and the shop.

The utmost attention to detail is required in this role along with the ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines, you will also have a desire to learn and progress your career in our business.

The successful candidate must have great people skills as this is paramount to your role. You will be required to work as part of a well-established team and ensure our customers receive a high standard of service.

The team manages a varied and complex shared caseload which will include completing holistic and specialised assessments and therapeutic interventions, and providing detailed risk management plans. You will liaise with colleagues and attend multidisciplinary meetings. Service User and carer involvement is at the centre of our approach, and this should be reflected in your values and practice. You will act as shift coordinator on a rostered basis, triaging referrals into the team, providing information, support and signposting as required. The right candidate will be supported into the team with an induction and then in developing and furthering their professional skills through reflection in appraisal objectives, management and clinical supervision and further training and development opportunities.
