We are looking to recruit dentists to join our growing team, initially based in our Plymouth facilities but we have an ambition to expand into a new Dental Education Practice (DEP) in Plymouth City Centre, in the next few years and are looking for enthusiastic and forward-thinking clinicians to support this ambition. Role summary:
The post holder will provide high quality NHS dental services in a multidisciplinary and innovative clinical environment. Patients may be referred via student teaching clinics, either for treatments more complex than can be managed by students, or to complete courses of treatment which cannot be completed by students because of time constraints. Responsible to the Consultant Pharmacist Antimicrobial Stewardship and the Lead Pharmacist for Paediatrics and Sexual Health for strategic planning and delivery of clinical pharmacy services to patients. Support the Chief Pharmacist / Deputy Chief Pharmacist / Associate Chief Pharmacist Consultant Pharmacist Antimicrobial Stewardship and the Lead Pharmacist for Paediatrics and Sexual Health in developing, monitoring and reporting on drug expenditure and medicines budget and the delivery of financial savings as part of the pharmacy CIP. Development, implementation, and update of clinical pharmacy policy in conjunction with senior pharmacists to ensure the safe and appropriate supply of antimicrobials and antiretrovirals. Work as a member of the Clinical Pharmacy Team, wider UHP pharmacy team, HIV, microbiology, antimicrobial stewardship, and infection control teams. Monitor, review, and report on medicines related relating to the use of antimicrobials and antiretrovirals. Provide specialist clinical pharmacy care to patients in the requiring infection management. To support the co-ordination of the antimicrobial and HIV team including junior pharmacists and technicians in the provision of a safe, effective and efficient clinical pharmacy service in accordance with local and national standards and strategy and to ensure all members of the pharmacy team are trained and competent for their roles. Assist in the development and implementation of PGDs and non-medical prescribing initiatives, when appropriate. Promote compliance by prescribers and other healthcare staff with local/national policies and the South and West Devon Formulary. Application of highly complex knowledge of the evidence base behind drug therapies used. Manage day to day medicines queries, including face to face consultations with patients identified to have compliance or other problems in medicine administration. Refer patients to other community services where appropriate. Liaise with all levels of healthcare staff, patients and carers in all areas of work. Analysis, interpretation and monitoring of clinical data including but not limited to: drug levels, U&Es, blood counts and microbiological sensitivities to guide diagnosis and drug therapy. Assess clinical requirements of patients as a clinical pharmacist and an independent prescriber through interpretation of clinical data and examination. JOB PURPOSE The postholder will work within the Plymouth Community Dental Service PCDS to develop, implement and evaluate defined Oral Health Improvement activities. Working closely with clinicians to ensure effective and efficient delivery of oral health programmes in line with national oral health strategies such as Delivering Better Oral Health, an evidence-based toolkit. This role will undertake oral health appointments with patients of the service, including adults/children and those with additional needs or who are medically compromised and to undertake fluoride varnish application under the prescription of a clinician. SCOPE AND RANGE This post will provide a comprehensive oral health service for patients with complex needs, as well as evidence-based oral health promotion to key population groups, in line with national and local strategies for reducing inequalities in oral health. The provision of Oral Health Promotion is multifaceted, requiring a range of inter-personal, presentational, and organisational skills, as well as an understanding of the impact of social and environmental determinants of health. The ability to work independently and flexibly is an essential part of this post. Responsibility for People Management Facilitate and support with on-going staff training in oral health promotion to the wider dental team and other healthcare professionals where appropriate.
