• Serves as a public health expert in developing, planning, coordinating, monitoring, implementing, and evaluating current or projected complex, interrelated public health and clinical / research programs within the Office of Human Research and Community Engagement (OHRCE) involving governmental and non-governmental organizations and individuals from multiple sectors e.g. local, state, national and/or international levels.

The Peer Specialist functions as an interdisciplinary team member, assisting physicians and other professional/non-professional personnel in a rehabilitation treatment program. Peer specialists perform a variety of therapeutic and supportive tasks that include assisting Veterans in articulating their goals for recovery and personal wellness, learning, and practicing new skills, helping them monitor their progress, assisting them in their treatment, modeling effective coping techniques and self-help strategies based on the peer specialist's own recovery experience, and supporting them in advocating for themselves to obtain effective services.
Duties include, but not limited to the following:

• Participates in the service, training, consultation, and other professional activities of VA health care services and functions as a fully vested member of the multidisciplinary team.
• Uses personal recovery experiences to model coping techniques and recovery tolls to coach Veterans to relevant skills need for self-management of their health condition(s) and pursuit of their personal wellness.
• Observes behaviors that might indicate difficulty adapting or responding to treatment (e.g., missed assessment appointments, failure to attend or maintain abstinence, risk to self or others, disruptive behavior), completes appropriate documentation, and reports concerns to the treatment team in a timely manner.
• Uses ongoing individual and group meetings to teach Veterans how to identify and combat negative self-talk and overcome fears by providing a forum that allows Veteran to share their experiences.
• As necessary, handles crisis interventions for Veterans and addresses other emergent situations without the benefit of specific instructions.
• Informs Veterans about VA and community supports and resources, including how to effectively utilize them in the recovery and wellness process.
• Maintains a working knowledge of current trends and developments in holistic approaches in wellness and recovery by reading books, journals, and other relevant materials.

The Mental Health Service Line provides care in several psychiatric settings: inpatient units, ambulatory programs, residential program for substance abuse, residential program for PTSD, emergency department, medical-surgical ward psychiatric consultation and geriatrics with extended programs. Psychiatrists within the Mental Health Service are able to perform and teach all of the services required in the practice of psychiatry to psychiatry residents. Educational experiences are also provided to appropriate health care personnel who seek training in mental health services (e.g. medical students, psychology and social work interns, physician assistant and nursing students, and non-psychiatric medical residents).

Section Chief duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Provide clinical and administrative coverage for Charlotte Outpatient Mental Health
• Be part of an on-call rotation of psychiatrists, which may include rounds on acute patients during weekends and holiday

• Application of accepted protocols for assessment of the individual presenting for psychiatric care. Assessment may include gathering verbal and documented history, mental status examination and medical and laboratory evaluation.

• Be available for all emergency psychiatric interventions during on-call hours

Supervisory Dietitian duties include, but are not limited to:

• Provides food-operations-specific leadership, serving as professional and technical advisor to staff and other health care professionals.

Duties:

This position is located in the Audiology and Speech Pathology Service at the Garner VA Clinic. The duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the medical center including all clinical and patient care areas involved with the service. The Supervisory Audiologist will be responsible for the supervision, administrative management, and direction of the audiology program in a unified audiology and speech-language pathology service or equivalent service-level department. They will be responsible for general or technical supervision of key clinical or training programs and overall technical and administrative oversight of audiologists depending on grade level.

Position located in the Health Services Department at a Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) correctional facility.

Primarily responsible for providing emergency assessment and medical care to inmate patients.

First responder at the scene of sudden illness or emergency and sometimes encounters situations which may be life threatening.

Determines, upon consultation with a medical provider (physician/physician assistant/nurse practitioner), the most appropriate method of transportation to the local hospital.

Prioritizes treatments for patients having multiple problems and employs a variety of established medical emergency procedures, techniques, methods and equipment, including the performance of emergency triage.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
