Unmanned Aerial System Pilot and Technician
Key Role:
Support aerial autonomy research as a pilot and technician, including small quadrotor and fixed wing systems. Support the building, design, piloting, and management of small unmanned aerial systems for autonomous experimentation. Act as a safety pilot, flying the UAS manually in stabilized or acro modes if software failures occur during testing. Leverage expertise in drone hobbyist technologies and management of the drone fleets to ensure they are ready for experimentation and evolving as needed with current trends to maintain system relevance. Perform as part of a larger team and apply good teamwork with researchers to perform experiments, both in the laboratory and in realistic environments, to evaluate algorithm performance as well as contributing to aerial robotic demonstrations. Leverage mechanical and electrical expertise to maintain the UAS and perform UAS builds and repairs. Contribute to conversations in UAS design decisions with researchers and guide UAS designs for better experimental output. Apply basic principles, theories, and concepts and industry knowledge. Solve routine problems of limited scope and complexity and refer more complex issues to higher levels. Work under direct supervision.
Basic Qualifications:
Knowledge of Q Ground Control and PX4 software
Knowledge of general flight mechanics
Knowledge of current hobbyist level RC, datalinks, cameras, power distribution, and ESCs with other quadrotor parts and their best practice use cases
Knowledge of FPV-level drone software and general flight parameter tuning in software
Ability to work with Quadrotor or drone piloting in FPV or commercial doing manual level flights
Ability to troubleshoot and repair electro-mechanical systems
Ability to build quadrotors or drones and fixed wings systems, including mechanical and electrical systems
Ability to pilot fixed-wing drones at the hobbyist level
Ability to obtain a security clearance

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $52,100.00 to $119,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
