The Breakdown Technician is responsible for attending disabled vehicles and returning them to their operation.

Working hours: 24/7 call out, with 1 week in 5 working in the branch

Essential duties and responsibilities

To perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to assist and then after an allotted training period perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 Carry out routine maintenance and repairs on all makes of vehicles & trailers
 Carry out routine maintenance and repairs on other equipment as and when required and fully trained
 Diagnose and rectify all types of faults
 Arrange 3rd party repairs/recoveries
 Attend disabled vehicles at the roadside or at customer’s premises
 Attend breakdowns on a 24-hour call out basis
 Ensure all vehicles worked upon are handled carefully and that all precautions are taken whilst on the premises/roadside
 Liaise with parts department to attain parts
 Ensure appropriate clocking is made, all job cards and service sheets are completed in a timely manner,
 Ensure accurate reporting on the Scania assistance app (SOS)
 Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness
 Maintain a thorough and current product knowledge and attend training courses
 Any other duties relevant to the smooth and efficient operation of the department as determined by your manager

This is a position based solely at our Southend plant, covering on a rotational basis a shift pattern of 6am - 2pm and 2pm - 10pm. You will join a multi-skilled team supporting manufacturing at this key site.

Roles and Responsibilities

As a maintenance technician, you will be responsible for:

• Carrying out pre-planned and reactive maintenance on mechanical and electrical assets including mould and power presses, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors and ancillary equipment etc.
• Providing engineering solutions when immediate spares aren't available (retrofitting, reverse engineering or modifying equipment)
• Working in line with maintenance technicians and best practices complying with Health and Safety regulations
• Respond to reactive maintenance call outs
• Maintaining accurate maintenance and inspection logs
• Assist in outage planning, scheduling and co-ordination
• Supervising contracted labour when on site
• Supporting and mentoring apprentices

Skills and Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following knowledge / qualifications:

• Apprenticeship in a mechanical or electrical engineering field
• Stone experience working with hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC controlled plant and associated equipment
• Experience working in a fast-moving production environment
• Willing to undertake additional specific plant training

Pay Rate: £21 p/h

Overtime and call outs possible

Hours: Rotational basis a shift pattern of 6am - 2pm and 2pm - 10pm, 5 days a week
