About the role

An opportunity has arisen for 2 Senior clinical fellow's ST3+ Locally Employed Doctors to work across the general medicine team at Salford Royal Hospital.

You will be an integral part of the Medical Team at Salford Royal Hospital working alongside an experienced team of Consultants and junior medical staff.

The Clinical Fellow will be part of a consultant led multidisciplinary team with responsibility for the provision of services across General and Specialist Medicine.

The post holder’s duties will be split between GIRFT and clinical obligations.They will be part of the Consultant led team providing medical care to inpatients in a senior clinical decision maker capacity, developing their enhanced skills in the assessment and management of unwell patients, supervising junior staff in their specialty, and providing support to Physicians Associates, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Specialist Nurses.



This is a Trust Doctor post ST3 + level or above equivalent position appointed for service commitments; it is not recognised for training by the Post Graduate Dean. The GIRFT Fellow will be involved in local, regional and national quality improvement projects. They will work with senior colleagues across the NCA NHSFT and GIRFT, to assist in data gathering and analysis of national and local practice and current outcomes; drawing up best guidance practice following clinical engagement across Trusts nationally and within the NCA NHSFT; publishing and disseminating best practice following implementation. A typical fellow will author 2-3 academic peer reviewed publications during their fellowship and make a similar number of conference presentations. A key component of the projects undertaken by the GIRFT Fellow will related to environmental sustainability, an area where GIRFT has an increasing interest.

We are seeking to appoint four Senior Clinical Fellow doctors at IMT3 level in General Internal Medicine, Medical Specialties Directorate. This post is suitable for doctors who have completed core medical training or are currently working as an IMT3 or Middle Grade. This post is a great opportunity to take that next step as a senior doctor, taking part on the Medical Registrar or IMT3 rota. The post is for 12 months but can be adjusted to suit personal circumstances. For example we are happy to consider extended unpaid leave for anyone wishing to combine professional and personal development or travel.

The post allows a wide range of experience in acute and subacute settings, both on assessment units and inpatient wards areas. The wide breadth of services available at Wythenshawe and Trafford Hospitals allows experience of specialised clinics that might otherwise be difficult to attend.

The posts are ideally suited to anyone wishing to further their development as a leader, educator or quality improvement (QI) practitioner. Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is a major teaching Trust with Ten hospitals on a number of sites. The hospitals involved are North Manchester General Hospital, Manchester Royal Infirmary, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Saint Mary’s Hospital, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and University Dental Hospital of Manchester (collectively known as the Oxford Road campus), Wythenshawe Hospital, Withington Community Hospital, Trafford General Hospital and Altrincham Hospital.

Candidates must be eligible for their own GMC registration - MFT cannot support GMC Sponsorship for candidates who are offered permanent vacancies.

The successful applicant will provide a clinical service at Specialty Registrar level, working closely with the clinical team under the supervision of the Consultants. They will be expected to take part in the daily surgical ward round as well as assisting in Consultant led ward rounds as required. They will also participate in out-patient clinic sessions, emergency clinic sessions and assist in theatre. They will be accountable to the General Surgery Clinical Director.

Candidates that are non-GMC registered at the point of application will be considered for this position, under the Trusts International Fellowship Scheme (please note, there is a £500 admin charge for this scheme). • Daily ward rounds to provide care for the surgical patients
• Providing assistance to the consultants during surgery
• Attendance at General surgery / colorectal F/U UGI outpatient clinics
• Participation in the weekly benign MDT
• Supervision of junior trainees
• Participating in departmental audits
• Participation in the middle grade on call rota (1:11)

We are seeking to appoint four Senior Clinical Fellow doctors at IMT3 level or above in General Internal Medicine. This post is suitable for doctors who have completed core medical training or are currently working as an IMT3 or Middle Grade. These posts are a great opportunity to take that next step as a senior doctor, taking part on the Medical Registrar or IMT3 rota. The posts are for 12 months but can be adjusted to suit personal circumstances. For example we are happy to consider extended unpaid leave for anyone wishing to combine professional and personal development or travel.

The posts are rotational allowing a wide range of experience in acute and subacute settings, both on assessment units and inpatient wards areas. The wide breadth of services available at Wythenshawe and Trafford Hospitals allows experience of specialised clinics that might otherwise be difficult to attend.

The posts are ideally suited to anyone wishing to further their development as a leader, educator or quality improvement (QI) practitioner. There are several clinical opportunities and educational or QI projects that have been identified for these posts or candidates are welcome to suggest their own ideas.

The posts have an assigned educational supervisor and a wide range of educational opportunities available which can be tailored to the needs of individual. The education programme for junior doctors at our hospitals across Trafford and Wythenshawe is active and includes a highly successful PACES teaching programme with frequent scheduled teaching sessions for 6 weeks prior to each exam diet. In addition, Specialties have additional weekly departmental meetings.
