The clinical commitments required of the appointee will be as detailed in the Weekly Programme of Duties though service needs may require alteration of the timetable without notice. The appointee will be required to visit any patient in any establishment forming part of the Trust at the request of the Consultant. The appointee will be required to be full shift rota and will be required to take part in Internal Cover arrangements during the absence of the Registrars and middle grades on annual or study leave. The appointee will be required to undertake those administrative duties commensurate with the post and to be responsible for the supervision and support of the Senior House Officers. We have an exciting opportunity for an inspirational leader to join Low Secure Services on a one year secondment as a General Manager, in the Forensic & Specialist Directorate.

The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the professional heads, the Service Manager and the Matron to provide demonstrable assurance that the quality of the clinical services including patient safety, patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes meet the required high standards. Lead multi-disciplinary planning for admission or discharge whilst on attending week. Firms 1 and 2 both carry out a wide range of general surgery. The specific interests of Firm 1 include vascular surgery, thyroid, paediatric and breast. A full range of vascular surgery is offered locally, including carotid surgery, femoro-distal bypass and infra-renal aortic surgery. Facilities are available for intra-operative angioplasty. There is an excellent Radiology Department with an interest in developing vascular interventional radiology. We have a colour duplex scanner, digital subtraction angiography, and spiral CT The specific interests of teams include gastrointestinal surgery, emergency and colo-rectal disease. On the top of this Mr Adamek and Mr Bhardwaj provide pelvic floor investigations and the Trust is participating in National Bowel Screening program both for colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy. We have Paediatric surgery once per month at DVH under the GSTT consultant and again under SLA arrangement. Your core trade will be in Carpentry and will have the relevant qualification and experience in this trade. You will also be able to complete minor tiling and decorating works related tasks within a social housing setting.

About You

Candidates will hold a City & Guilds Craft or Level 2 qualification in Carpentry or equivalent and have excellent knowledge of Health & Safety. Candidates will also be customer focused with experience of working in both occupied and void properties, you’ll hold or be working towards holding a CSCS Blue Skilled Worker Card and have a passion for completing high-quality repairs on time, first time. You’ll be punctual, reliable and comfortable operating small handheld plant such as drills and breakers.

All F1 Doctors will be responsible for patient care and management of approximately 8 medical wards and 2 surgical wards. The post is fairly busy and offers wide range of experience in all acute medical and surgical emergencies, as well as day-to-day management of patients. This includes conducting investigations and therapeutic procedures in consultation with the FY2/ST1/2/SpR and preparing for Consultant rounds. Resident SpR and FY2 on-call cover is available at all times and many areas have dedicated senior nurse specialist to offer advice and support. The Trust runs a critical outreach team which offer advice and support on the management of critical ill patients and can facilitate the move of patients to ITU/HDU areas. Pathology and Radiology services are available on a 24 hour basis. The Clinical Service General Manager has a role in the day to day management of junior doctors and are there to provide help and support in ensuring of F1 post holders are adequately supported.

Clinical responsibilities: Takes an active role in maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors and colleagues within the unit as required by the Health and Safety at Work Act and the COSHH regulations. To be aware of the reporting procedure for accidents/incidents. To report any accidents or incidents or near misses to the nurse in charge immediately. To know where all emergency and resuscitation equipment is located. Ensures that there are adequate levels of stock items and escalates to ward admin staff or procurement staff as appropriate. Informs the nurse in charge of any stock issues. To keep all clinical areas fully stocked on a daily basis. To keep bed areas, clinical areas and storage areas clean, tidy and damp dusted according to daily and weekly cleaning schedules to ensure that infection risk is kept to a minimum. To ensure that any equipment that is not in use is clean, labelled, stored away tidily and on charge, if appropriate.
