• You will provide case assessment, legal advice, legal briefings, and representation to Sailors and Marines who are undergoing the DES process.

The General Engineer:

• Serves as an associate marine surveyor for assigned ships and maintains a working knowledge of assigned vessel characteristics, capabilities, and operational performance. Inspects vessels for material condition and conducts sea trials to assess vessel capabilities, performance, and readiness.

The Aviation Safety Inspector (ASI) receives administrative direction from management in terms of broadly defined missions or functions. The ASI, mostly independently plans, designs, and carries out programs, projects, studies, or other work. The work is normally accepted without change. Completed work may be reviewed for adherence to FAA policy and for assurance that project requirements have been fulfilled.

Some FG-14 assignments involve service wide responsibility for application of expert knowledge of flight operations for advanced multiengine turbojet aircraft. Such employees are concerned with all aspects of the operational capabilities and limitations of the aircraft.

ASIs at the FG-14 level establish technical procedures and performance indexes and review complete flight operations programs for leaders in the aviation industry, or organizations of comparable scope and complexity, or a uniquely complex group of general aviation organizations. Assignments at this level are of great scope and unusual complexity.

FG-14 employees develop and evaluate flight operations programs for organizations which utilize the newest, most complex aircraft, systems, and equipment. Because of organizational complexity or technology incorporated in the aircraft, systems, and equipment, employees must exercise originality to resolve unique problems. They frequently rely on engineers and designers for specific technical guidance although much of their work is carried out under very broad policy guidelines. Supervisors give FG-14 employees a wide leeway for independent action. Other inspectors seek their advice on problems relating to aircraft and their operation. Because of the precedent-setting nature or substantial effect on the aviation industry or public safety, their decisions may be reviewed and approved at a higher policy- setting level.

The ASI resolves all but unique problems, with the intervention of management or a technical specialist. Develop plans, techniques, and policies to address current and anticipated problems and issues. Works with management to solve problems.

The ASI is expected to follow established laws, orders, policies, and regulations that provide general guidance for completing work objectives, but is allowed considerable discretion to develop new or innovative approaches. The ASI uses resourcefulness, initiative, and judgement based on experience to develop and implement evaluation procedures to address problems where precedents are not applicable. Methods, practices, or decisions may be used as guidance in similar problem areas.

The ASI keeps management informed of the status of all programs and projects and is held accountable for the technical accuracy, proper coordination, and timeliness of completed staff work. Evaluates tasks contained in the FAA practical test standards and airman certification standards by participating as pilot in command or as a crewmember. The inspector is required to maintain an FAA second class medical.

Incumbent performs work involving construction, alteration, repair, or modification of items and structures such as metal stud framework, acoustical T-bar ceilings, drywall installation and finish, doors, frames and hardware, finished paneling, windows, interior and exterior trim, flooring, etc., where accuracy spacing and fit are essential and structural soundness of appearance are important.

Plans and completes projects from initial layout to final assembly or installation. Must have knowledge of advanced shop mathematics to plan and compute more complex and exact projects. Incumbent performs partial demolition of wood, concrete, metal and brick structures, while protecting usable electrical, mechanical and plumbing components. Incumbent must be able to read, interpret, and apply building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, operating manuals, and building codes. The Office of Division Counsel (Litigation & Advisory) (L&A) provides legal services for the Internal Revenue Service Large Business and International (LB&I) and Small Business/Self Employed (SB/SE) Divisions on tax matters, legal issues, regulations, and needs relevant to individuals filing Schedules C, E, F, and Form 2106, subchapter C corporations, subchapter S corporations, partnerships, estates, and trusts. The Office of Division Counsel L&A is a nationwide organization headquartered in Washington, DC, divided into seven geographic areas and one nationwide strategic advisory function. Each Area is responsible for legal work within a defined geographic group. We work with complicated issues of tax law and accounting principles in the context of an expanding global environment. L&A employs over 1,100 attorneys and paralegals nationwide, who provide a full range of legal services on all issues, including advising LB&I and SB/SE compliance agents, handling litigation in the U.S. Tax Court and referring and recommending litigation to the Department of Justice.

As a Supervisory General Attorney (Tax) (Assistant to the Associate Area Counsel), you will:

The Office of Chief Counsel, General Legal Services (GLS) handles non-tax matters and employs approximately 92 attorneys and 7 paralegals. Work in the GLS Area Counsel field offices is focused on providing advice, support, and litigation representation for IRS and Chief Counsel management in administrative fora and in arbitration, with the majority of case work centering on labor, EEO, and personnel law. The field offices also provide assistance to the Department of Justice in federal courts on such matters, as well as for suits against IRS employees, and may assist with processing claims under the Federal Tort Claims Act.

The incumbent serves as an Area Counsel within the Office of the Associate Chief Counsel (General Legal Services) (GLS), supervising and managing the GLS function within the designated geographical jurisdiction (Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming).
