Your role and responsibilities
Suffolk County Council's Network Assurance team are responsible for managing the occupation of County’s road network and delivering Suffolk County Council’s Network Management Duty in line with the Traffic Management Act and the New Roads and Street Works Act. The authority successfully introduced a ‘Permit Scheme’ on the 1 April 2020. Knowledge and experience of working and/or operating within a ‘Permit Scheme’ would be an advantage.
- reporting directly to the Senior Network Inspector, you'll need to engage with the statutory undertakers and other works promoters and work towards minimising the disruption to the highway user, improve safety and ensure the integrity of the road.
- inspect works and activities within the highway in accordance with the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and Traffic Management Act 2004, ensuring compliance with codes of practice including taking appropriate action for non-compliance.
- to work closely with the Network Co-ordinator to provide technical support in the co-ordination of works to ensure minimum inconvenience to the general public.
- you will, in line with Network Assurance’s impartial and independent role, treat Suffolk Highways’, public utilities’ and private contractors’ activities in the same manner.
You will need
- New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) Accreditation qualification
- a relevant qualification such as HND/HNC in highways (or civil) engineering discipline or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
- to have an understanding of the NRSWA and Traffic Management Act requirements relating to Network Assurance duties.
