We are recruiting for a Research Nurse who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

We are looking for two Research Nurses who will work on research studies in a wide range of specialties that include cardiology, surgery, anaesthetics and critical care, gynaecology, respiratory gastroenterology.

Specialist knowledge in one or more of the specialist areas will be useful in delivering the role.

You will play a key role in identification of potential research participants, recruitment of patients into trials and supporting them through the trial process and treatment. Induction, training and support will be provided.

To work with clinicians and other specialists recruiting patients to clinical trials and other NIHR research studies.

To take responsibility for the safe administration of experimental drugs and for monitoring the expected and unexpected side effects of drugs and other treatment modalities.

Research The successful applicant will be engaged in ENT research predominantly, working towards a higher degree in ENT (MD or PhD) through existing links with the University of Hertfordshire. The department is active in Research and is currently recruiting patients in Otology, Rhinology and Head and Neck Surgery research studies. The main area of research will depend on the departments research priorities and the successful applicants subspecialty of interest. There will be also a requirement to help support the research team of nurses to recruit patients into commercial clinical trials and registries that are ongoing. The post holder will be expected to start up novel clinical research projects. This will involve submitting projects to the local Ethics Committee, recruiting patients, hands-on clinical research, data entry and writing up results. There will be a defined teaching responsibility and the potential for development of collaborative research projects with other departments. The post holder will be required to assist recruitment into commercial clinical trials and registries, and help with data input and patient follow up. Clinical Clinically, this is an excellent opportunity within the ENT unit at the Trust for the appointee to further their interest and surgical knowledge and skills. The ENT department performs regularly advanced ear operations (including bone conduction and middle ear implant work), advanced rhinology procedures (and use of Navigation), transoral robotic surgery, trans-nasal oesophagoscopy, and has the largest cohort of thyroid/parathyroid patients in Hertfordshire/ Bedfordshire. There are subspecialty clinics taking place daily (e.g hearing and balance, smell, thyroid and parathyroid, head and neck, paediatric) and different MDTs that the fellow will be expected to attend. The post-holder will be supervised in operating lists and clinics and will not have any out of hours on-calls.

Theexitingpost is ideal for post FY2 orposts CT2 (Ideally)trainees keen to perform clinical and basic science research in the Department. The department has an international reputation of excellence in Urology and currently has over 5 national, 2 international andnumerousAudits running.





The post will include exposure to Robotic Surgical Assisting, Day case surgery, Flexible cystoscopy exposure, medical student teaching and supporting Foundation trainees on the ward. Our current fellow has published papers in high impact journal and has presented at national and international meetings. The Urology Research fellow is also expected to support the current Robotic Fellow tomaintainthe department’s robotic database andcontributesto national audits.
