Infrastructure Engineer

Based primarily at our customer’s site near West London, you will be providing infrastructure and network changes as part of the programme’s SUB2 team, owning and leading on a variety of infrastructure change tasks.

The preferred candidate will have a range of knowledge and experience in the administration of a service based on Cisco and Microsoft products, and be an expert on Microsoft Windows Server (including services such as AD, DNS, DHCP & SCCM) and virtualisation (Hyper-V), while also having an understanding and interest in Linux (Ubuntu / CentOS) and a desire to learn (if required) additional complementary technologies such as Microsoft Stack Technologies (SharePoint, SQL Server, Skype for Business / Teams), networking technologies and storage.

 
The Infrastructure Engineer will work alone and / or as part of a team depending on the size and complexity of the change task to deliver Infrastructure changes in a demanding environment.

YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Have excellent knowledge of Virtualized Environments such as VMware and Hyper-V;

* Have excellent knowledge of Windows Server Environments, from Server 2003 – 2019, including OS build, AD, DNS, DHCP and GPO from design to implementation and support;

* Have a strong working knowledge of Linux system administration skills (Ubuntu / CentOS);

* Have good general knowledge of TCP/IP and networking technologies including load balancing and firewalls;

* Have good general knowledge of Microsoft stack technologies such as SharePoint, Skype for Business / Teams, MS SQL, MS System Centre, Office365, MS Exchange & CLI tooling such as PowerShell;

* Have good general knowledge of SAN storage technologies;

* Have experience of working in security cleared environments/working in Defence;

* Have excellent analysis and problem solving skills, taking ownership of complex incidents ensuring these are resolved to the satisfaction of the customer;

* Strong focus on delivering value to customers;

* Possess excellent communication skills, ideally able to communicate technical issues to less technical staff and managers;

* Have experience in providing support to others, including Service Desk Analysts and Second Line Engineers;

* Proactive working attitude;

* Have experience of producing and updating technical documentation to a high standard;

Occasional travel to other Leidos and customer sites may be required. Keeping an eye on the technology landscape is essential, too – identification of new and relevant technologies to solve problems and make improvements is part of the job. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills as the central point of contact for Deployed Service Delivery.

• Experience of ITIL Service Management

• Experience of software maintenance and support to include servers, workstations, laptops, network and peripheral devices.

• Experience in the installation and configuration of Microsoft Server 2008, 2016 and 2019.

• Experience in the installation and configuration of Microsoft Windows 7 and 10 workstations.

• Good knowledge of the configuration, maintenance and installation of Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) software applications.

• Extensive knowledge of Windows domain architectures, Active Directory, Group Policy and DNS.

• Experience in the installation, configuration and maintenance of Enterprise Anti-Virus products.

• Experience in the installation, configuration and maintenance of Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).

• Experience of SQL Server.

• Experience of network setup and configuration (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Firewall skills).

• Knowledge of backup technologies.

• Experience of desktop rollout and configuration.

• Experience of cloud-based deployment.

• Experience configuring and maintaining monitoring tools and systems.

• Defence experience.

• ITIL Foundation Qualification.

• Analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Awareness of Agile methodologies.

Systems Engineer

As a Systems Engineer in Leidos you will be working on one of our key programs delivering support on a complex and ever changing MOD system. You will be working on a system that is directly involved in ensuring the National Security of the UK.

What you will do

Your primary responsibility will be to enact good systems engineering practices in a predominately Windows environment. Key subsystems include radio, video and network interfaces. Your role will include full lifecycle management of a systems environment, project delivery subject to customer direction and technical development of the core system.

What we are looking for

• MS Windows Server administration experience and associated technologies such as AD, DNS & DHCP.
• MS SQL Server Administration experience would also be useful.
• Responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical Microsoft server systems.
• Experience with virtualisation technologies e.g. Vmware, Hyper-V
• Configure and maintain Windows servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
• Analyse, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
• Experience with backups, restores and recovery models, e.g Veeam, BackupExec.
• Manage server patching through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.

Desirable Skills:

• Knowledge of JSP 440 
• Proven Experience with military grade and commercial off the shelf radio systems including;
  • Communications planning within transceiver limitations.
  • Programming radios.
  • Filling radios.
  • Programming SDR’s.
• Cryptographic material storage and movement.
• HF/VHF/UHF and SATCOM propagation and principles.
• Red Hat and Linux experience.
• Familiarity with networking technologies.
• Knowledge/ experience working within an MBSE environment.
• Experience of working with industry partners and platform integrators to support platform integration and installation.
• Ability to present and deliver training to students.

Location: This role will be based in Herefordshire, with very occasional travel to other sites.
