About the role..As our Development Manager for Onshore Wind you will be part of the origination and development of new development projects typically up to the point of planning permission being agreed. You’ll be working on a number of projects simultaneously; as a Development Manager for Onshore Wind you will pull the appropriate skills into a virtual project team to complete all the relevant planning and consultancy activities required to successfully pass through each gateway in the process. At the point of planning permission being received, as Development Manager you will hand over leadership of the project to the Investment & Commercial team and continue to support the project with consents and approvals expertise.Our Development Manager is mandated by the business growth board to successfully deliver planning permission. A challenge for this role is balancing the competing requirements of design, environmental and commercial priorities to deliver planning permission that is commercially viable.

What you’ll be doing..You’ll ensure that projects are delivered in accordance with applicable Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) policies and procedures and take a proactive role in managing SHEQ performance for each project working closely with the Construction team and other key stakeholders.
- Project managing the successful delivery of development projects through to planning being approved as mandated by each project gateway.
- Assemble and manage virtual project teams to ensure the right skills are available to successfully deliver the requirements for each project gateway.
- Present updates to performance and business growth boards to enable decision making and progress through project gateways.
- Responsible for submitting any required environmental and technical assessments to support the project feasibility and consent applications. Managing external consultants who will contribute to these activities.
- Manage relationships with third party developers within a project to ensure work is aligned and meeting agreed objectives.
- Comply with the EDF RUK project governance process including our Business Management System, budgeting and monthly reporting.
- Negotiate heads of terms with landowners and subsequent option and lease agreements. Manage all stakeholders including land agents and internal and external legal resources.
- Secure access for development projects to the grid to ensure long term financial viability of the project.
- Act as a focal point for discharge of planning conditions through project lifecycle and any compliance matters associated with project commitments.What do you need to be great at this role?
You’ll have a university degree in Planning, Land or other environmental matters. Other appropriate qualifications may be considered in addition to;
- Experience of successfully delivering projects by project managing virtual or matrix teams.
- Experience of similar roles in the renewable energy, electricity generation, land or planning sectors.
- Understanding of what makes a viable renewable project successful and increasing the competitiveness of our projects.
- Strong team-player with good interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
- Maintains knowledge of changing policy affecting our projects.
- A commitment to ensuring the highest standards of project development, consultation and community relations at all times.
- Willing to work on projects throughout the UK and Ireland, including short stays away from the office.
- Ideally town planning or environmental background experience in a local authority, consultancy or related development industry.
- Knowledge and understanding of renewable energy development, in particular the associated environmental and technical constraints to development.
- A broad understanding of planning processes in the UK and/or Ireland.
- A commitment to EDF ER’s HSE policies and an understanding of HSE and CDM requirements.
- Ability to use GIS software is helpful, although not essentialClosing Date: 12th of November 2023Location: We are flexible on location within the UK with the flexibility of working from home but there will be an expectation to travel to one of our offices and sites once every few weeksContract: Permanent
