An opportunity has arisen for an experienced family support worker to join Falkirk Council and lead on the delivery of a bespoke family support pilot developed collaboratively by Children’s and Place Services.

This post is to provide person centred family support to children and families who have lived in temporary accommodation for lengthy periods of time. The post holder will use the Outcome Star model to undertake assessment of need, helping families to identify and overcome the wider factors impacting on their ability to sustain a permanent tenancy.

A strength-based approach is essential in working alongside families to identify solutions in respect of their family life. Therefore, experience of supporting families in overcoming challenges with family relationships and routines, the impact of domestic abuse, emotional wellbeing and school attendance is desirable.

You will be based in the Temporary Accommodation Team to develop a strong understanding of the housing application system and support families in this process. They will also be required to work closely with key partners across social work, education, employment, and mental health services to support the development of stronger support networks for families. Strong communication skills and experience of working collaboratively with partners is essential.

This post is temporary until February 2026 and has been created to support Children’s and Place Services in its ongoing work to improve outcomes for children and families in the local area. Supervision and support with be provided on a regular basis.

The successful candidate will be required to maintain PVG scheme membership.

Working in a fast-paced environment you will support admissions from hospital and the community, working with the service users to achieve and maintain their independence. You must have experience of or an understanding of the care needs of older people and the effects of ageing and disability. You will be skilled in assessment and recording. You must have good communication skills, a flexible positive attitude and be able to work as part of a team but also to manage your own workload, use your initiative and work on your own.

Part time permanent contract of 13.5 hours per week – you will be required to work nights on a shift rota basis which will include weekends.

An SVQ level 3 in social care or the willingness to work towards this together with moving and handling training would be desirable.

Based in the Facilities Team of Place Services you will be responsible for response led and regular inspections of the Council’s non-housing property portfolio to identify and instruct works to be carried out as a part of planned or responsive repairs and maintenance programmes.

Applicants must hold an appropriate building services related HNC, or equivalent, preferably with a minimum of 5 years experience within the commercial building services sector, and will be expected to have a thorough knowledge of building services, related plant and engineering trades and techniques. You will be mobile throughout the Council area. Applicants are required to be Gas Safe registered, ideally with commercial installations additional module.

You will liaise with premises managers, and with technical / professional staff within Invest Falkirk to discuss repair works, minor planned budgets and other relevant issues that affect the building services installations within our properties. You will issue detailed repair instructions to both relevant contractors, supervise the standard and timely completion of works, and check and agree invoices prior to payment.

You will have the ability to work under pressure on different projects simultaneously and be able to prepare regular progress reports for Coordinators and managers, whilst ensuring regular attendance at premises.

You will respond to emergency requests for necessary ad-hoc repair works and will arrange for appropriate remedial action to be taken. A formal standby scheme is in operation to cover out of hours emergencies and repairs, and the successful applicant will be required to participate in this scheme.

As Children’s Services Partnership Coordinator & GIRFEC Lead, you will be responsible for the Integrated Children’s Services Plan, Children’s Rights Plan, and other related plans, to implement UNCRC, GIRFEC, The Promise and the duties under the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 on behalf of the Children’s Services Partnership. You will oversee the operation of Children’s Partnership subgroups and co-ordinate reporting from these groups to ensure quality improvement across the partnership.

As lead for the GIRFEC you will chair the GIRFEC group and lead on the development and implementation of the GIRFEC action plan. You will be part of the Children’s Partnership Learning and Development Group leading on the design and delivery GIRFEC training with partners.

We are looking for someone with:

• Extensive experience of working in/ with the public sector and children’s services planning
• Proven ability to lead multi-agency working
• In depth knowledge of Getting it Right for Every Child
• Understanding and experience of planning across the community planning partnership and children’s partnerships.
