Job Description

To provide support, both direct and indirect, for deaf and visual impaired children and young people, primarily, but not solely, in the learning environment. Apply appropriate communication methods, suitable for the needs and preferences of the pupils, to enable access to information and the curriculum and promote inclusion.

This is a peripatetic post and will require the post holder to be mobile and work in more than one school across Moray and require the use of their own car.

Responsibilities

Support learning and teaching activities under the direction of the Principal Teacher SES, Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People (ToD) and Teacher of Visual Impairment (TVI)

Provide communication support to children and young people who is either a deaf or visually impaired.

Modify and adapt curriculum content so that it is accessible to the child or young person.

Attend to the emotional health and wellbeing of children and young people who is deaf or visually impairment.

Support children and young people in the effective use of technology necessary to access their learning

The Individual

Experience of working with children & young adults of pre-school/school age in a caring and supportive environment.

2 SQA Standard grades or equivalent at level 3 or above in English and Maths.

British Sign Language (BSL) Level 1 and Braille Stage 1 or a commitment to acquire both in a timely fashion

Full driving licence

Ability to communicate at all levels.

Ability to observe professional confidentiality and implement sound judgement

Ability to work flexibly using their own initiative and as part of a team.

Willingness to accept direction / delegation.

Ability to work under guidance and direction of specialist (ToD/TVI) and class teaching staff

Ability to interact with empathy and tolerance and to respond positively to children and young people with a sensory impairment

An understanding of, and commitment to, the ethos of inclusion

You will be expected to travel efficiently between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the Service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a private car or pool car / van.

Your new company

You will be working as an administration assistant in a busy, fast-paced office environment in the Elgin area. This role is an ongoing temporary position until at least April 2025, offering an immediate start. This role is paid hourly, for an equivalent salary of around £25,000.

Your new role

In your new role, you will work as part of a small team of administrators to provide wide-ranging admin support to the wider department. Duties will include, but not be limited to, printing, scanning, filing, processing invoices, updating information on spreadsheets and other databases, collating timesheets and other ad hoc duties. This role is full-time, working from Monday to Friday, 37 hours. Based in the office, you will have access to free parking and on-site facilities.

What you'll need to succeed

In order to be successfully appointed to this role, you will have strong administration skills and the ability to work quickly and in an organised way. You will be adaptable and be able to pick up a variety of tasks throughout the day. Keen attention to detail is essential, as is working effectively as part of a team. This role would suit someone with some experience of processing invoices, or the ability to pick up with basic training.

In return, this role will offer you a long-term temporary placement right through until April 2025. This role is paid weekly via Hays, on the equivalent of £25,000 salary. Further extension of this role is possible, with also the possibility of the role becoming more permanent.

We require a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to work within our SEN department and provide curriculum support to students with special educational needs.
Within the existing SEN Team there is a range of expertise and experience. The Faculty has an ‘open door’ policy so staff, students, or parents and carers may request support in lessons, with homework, organisation or social support.
The post would suit an applicant who may be considering a career in teaching, have experience of working with young people in other settings outside of education or looking to work within a school setting. Hours of Work:
28 hours and 45 minutes per week at the following times: 9.00am – 3.10pm, Monday – Friday
The above hours include a 20-minute paid break (if working more than 4 hours per day) and a 25-minute unpaid lunch break, to be taken at times agreed with the Line Manager.
