We are seeking enthusiastic and self-motivated pharmacists to join our large team of band 7 senior pharmacists to provide pharmacy and medicines optimisation services to patients at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Pharmacy Department is highly regarded in the Trust and has 270 staff members. The department is friendly, forward thinking and constantly expanding with opportunities for personal development and further postgraduate education. It is compulsory for our pharmacists to complete a postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or equivalent. Furthermore, we are constantly expanding our pool of non-medical prescribing pharmacists. We support pharmacists to pursue opportunities in research to further expand their portfolio.

Investment in facilities includes automated dispensing in our large main dispensary, which covers inpatient, outpatient and home delivery services. We have four satellite dispensaries, attached to specialist areas to promote efficient dispensing. Our dispensaries are led by experienced pharmacy technicians allowing clinical staff to focus on patient care, medicines optimisation and care group work. Omnicell cabinets are used in the Emergency Department and Major Trauma Ward, supporting automated pharmacy services on ward level. The aseptic unit holds of a “Specials” Manufacturing Authorisation (MS) licence by MHRA.

Our band 7 pharmacists support discharges through transcribing and non-medical prescribing in most of our rotations. Rotations include antibiotics and infectious diseases, critical care, haematology and oncology, paediatrics, surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, acute and specialist medicine, cardiology, cardiac surgery, technical services, clinical trials, and patient services. There is the exciting opportunity to participate in a secondment to the island of St Helena.

MAIN RESPONSIBILTITES Collect blood samples by venepuncture from patients on request from clinicians, doctors and nurses, in accordance with the phlebotomy standard operating procedure. Ensure correct care, labelling, recording and maintenance of accurate records for each venepuncture. Have due respect for privacy and dignity Ensure subject is comfortable and relaxed as much as possible, and obtain verbal consent prior to collecting blood samples. If requested, to visit other areas to undertake venepuncture for subjects who are unable to attend the phlebotomy department without delay. Comply at all times with trust relevant data and information governance policy, and respect confidentiality, in particular the confidentiality of electronically stored data, in line with the Data Protection Act. Have a good knowledge and understanding of the purpose of the different blood collection devices, and be able to pass on knowledge to trainees, as required. Be aware and understand the range of blood samples that require special treatment. Accurately create labels using the available IT system and label all samples correctly before calling in the next subject. Reassure patients who are nervous about sampling procedures and apply dressings to wounds created by blood draws. Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care. Maintain accurate records of all samples taken. Track collected specimens by initialling & dating request form. Be able to use Trusts Patient Administration System (PAS) to find subject details when needed, e.g. to confirm identity before taking any blood samples. Assist in delivery of samples to the Pathology Department whenever is necessary to do so. Notify nursing staff, preferably nurse in charge, if there are any concerns for the subjects care. Liaise with members of the administrative team and communicate well with team members. When requested, pack and despatch blood samples correctly for transport to the appropriate laboratories. Check that all consumables are always in sufficient quantity, order and re-stock regularly. Ensure the maintenance of good working relationships and communication at all times with patients, relatives and staff of all disciplines. Participate in discussion with the department manager or senior concerning the repair and renewal of equipment and estate. Supervise and train other clinical staff to ensure competency in venepuncture OTHER DUTIES: Be familiar with and ensure compliance with the trusts Health and Safety policy and Infection Control policies. Applications are invited for a Senior Locally Employed Doctor in Heart failure or Advanced Echocardiography within the Cardiology department in the Manchester Heart Institute. The post is based at Wythenshawe Hospital.
Due to the short-term nature of the role, the successful candidate must hold a current registration with the GMC at the time of application, whether it be an active licence, ceased licence or a pending application - MFT cannot support GMC Sponsorship for vacancies less than 12 months fixed term. Candidates who do not fit this criteria will not progress through to the shortlisting stage.

Heart failure both new onset and chronic which requires close management to avoid admission. The role also takes part in the WTWA senior on call rota supporting cardiology and the emergency
primary PCI service which covers all of GM.

You should have undergone at least 3 years specialist training in general cardiology and have some experience in Heart Failure or
echocardiography.
This post is ideal for someone wishing to enhance their sub-specialty knowledge and experience in either Heart Failure and will include exposure to the catheter labs, outpatient clinics and supporting the inpatient wards.
The successful candidate will receive advanced training in heart failure . Experience working in a cardiology department in the UK will be important for this post due to the busy and challenging nature of the work of a registrar in our tertiary cardiac centre.

The main focus of this role is to improve and be trained in Heart Failure or under the supervision of the consultant team.
There is an expectation of the successful postholder to fully contribute to Heart Failure service at Wythenshawe Hospital.
Furthermore, the postholder will support the consultant team with specific outpatient clinics, which will be selected to complement the postholder's
training needs in conjunction with supporting the service with its secondary and tertiary centre work.
There is also a commitment to the Cardiology middle-grade on-call rota, which supports the hospital's acute inpatient work and the wider Greater
Manchester footprint as a key point of contact for the tertiary centre.
