An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Highland Region Delivery Team for a dedicated and hard-working Project Manager. The successful candidate will be part of a team delivering projects across the Highlands & Islands. Our team are responsible for the replacement and refurbishment of plant & equipment on our 33kV & 11kV networks, refurbishment of our overhead line network and the delivery of projects associated with our Major Connection customers.

As a Project Manager, your main duties will involve:

- Conducting financial forecasts and monitoring financial performance using established tools independently

- Consistently fulfilling regulatory reporting needs

- Creating project documentation

- Collaborating with contractor partners and operational staff to ensure projects are completed safely and within budget.

- Ensuring exceptional customer service delivery.

What do I need?

To be eligible for this position, we would like you to have:

- A recognized Project Management qualification such as Prince 2 (Foundation) or similar, or equivalent experience

- A fundamental CDM certification like IOSH or a comparable qualification

- Understanding of Project Governance and its relevance to specific Projects

- Strong organisational abilities and the capacity to work well in a team

- An understanding of HV/EHV networks would be beneficial

A valid driving license is necessary for this job.

What is the role?

Our Trainee Site Construction Management programme lasts for three years and combines work-based learning experience and formal training and workshops, including an SVQ in Construction Site Management.

This programme will develop your knowledge and experience to become a Site Manager. Whilst on the programme you will organise work on our project sites, making sure all tasks are completed safely, on time, and within budget. You will liaise with contractors, surveyors and builders to ensure a project is on track and ensure there are enough staff, machinery, and materials to complete the job.

You will gain real hands-on experience, build an invaluable network, and develop a unique set of skills which will shape your career. Due to our size and diversity, we can offer you a structured yet challenging development programme where you will have the support of the Learning and Development team and a business mentor to assist you in reaching your full potential. You will be assigned a Site Construction Manager (SCM) that will help manage your day-to-day activities on site, ensuring that you get the breadth of knowledge and experience to help you complete your training.

The programme will support your career development into a Site Construction Manager position taking responsibility for your own site. SSEN Transmission projects typically appoint a full-time site representative or Site Construction Manager onto each major site. They play a pivotal role in the team and act as a full-time on-site link between our contractors and the rest of the SSEN Transmission project team, including the project manager. They also play an integral link with our operations team. Projects are typically construction of new, or modification to existing transmission voltage (132kV and above) assets including substations, overhead lines, and underground cables. This can include major civil works and buildings.

What do I need? 

To be considered for this role, we would love you to:

- Have some previous experience working on an active construction site in any capacity, or alternatively have studied HNC Construction Management. Please note, we are unable to accept applications from those that have already completed, or are working towards achieving, a Masters degree.

The Deputy Manager plays a pivotal role in the efficient operation of the business by providing support to the Store Manager and assuming responsibility in their absence. This role requires an individual with exceptional leadership skills, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for delivering outstanding customer service.

The Deputy Manager will oversee various departments and with specific areas of responsibilities assigned to them which will be tailored to the individual store requirements. They will ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the store, while also addressing challenges and opportunities as they arise.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assume the duties of the Store Manager in their absence, ensuring continuity of operations and adherence to society policies and procedures.
• Provide leadership and guidance to staff, fostering a positive work environment and promoting teamwork.
• Monitor the performance of the staff, providing coaching and feedback as necessary to enhance productivity and customer service.
• Manage stock levels and availability to optimise the sales opportunity while controlling waste.
• Implement and enforce Health and Safety requirements and standards to maintain a secure and hazard-free environment for customers and staff.
• Oversee the implementation of promotional activities and make it simple initiatives, driving revenue growth and process improvement and efficiencies.
• Resolve customer complaints and inquiries in a timely and professional manner, demonstrating a commitment to exceptional service.
• Monitoring KPI’s, investigating issues and taking corrective action when necessary.
• Stay informed about community engagement opportunities and competitor activities, providing insights to support decision-making.

To ensure that we comply with alcohol licensing legislation applicants must be aged 18 or over and will ideally be eligible to become a Personal Licence Holder, and as you may be positioned within a store with a Post Office, you will be required to successfully complete Post Office Limited’s security and background checking processes.
