An exciting career opportunity for an experienced Sustainability Manager to join NNL in a sustainability management role. You'll be supporting the evolution and implementation of our sustainability strategy and help us to further our ambition towards Net Zero following best practices. The successful candidate will demonstrate subject matter expertise, drive, strategic thinking and the confidence to develop and deliver the NNL sustainable business programmes (which will also include building the capacity within the organisation, engaging with internal stakeholders and operationalising our Net Zero plans).
The purpose of this role is to evolve and drive the implementation of our Good Growth Plan, aligning to and supporting long-term sustainable business strategy and goals. This role will also support in implementing NNLs Net Zero ambition working closely with the VP / Director of Sustainability and environmental reporting/other relevant colleagues.
The location for this role is flexible and can be based at Risley, Preston, Workington or Sellafield.
Main Responsibilities for Sustainability Manager:
- Environment Programme
- To evolve and NNLs Global Environment Programme applying expertise on the key areas below:
- TCFD reporting.
- Carbon reduction and Net Zero plans.
- Long-term carbon offsetting strategy.
- Single-use plastic / other waste reduction.
- Drive the NNL ambition to become Net Zero.
- Partner with the VP / Director of Sustainability to develop Net Zero strategy and associated plans across the business.
- Responsible for implementation and operationalization of carbon reduction plans.
- Develop NNLs Environment programme to best industry standards.
- Social Impact
- Provide input to the NNL Social Impact strategy and support plans for delivery / reporting.
- Legislation, policies and expert advice
- Advise the business on climate - related policy and relevant standards / frameworks.
- Support for reporting in line with TCFD.
- Commercial and Business Units support
- Provide inputs to help the business identify risks arising from ESG issues and advise accordingly.
- Support commercial business and operational units through key characteristics on approach and performance on sustainability.
- Contribute to the development of our sustainable business strategy, supporting the development and implementation of new standards and arrangements to back up our sustainability principles.
Essential Criteria for Sustainability Manager:
- We're looking for someone who holds an Environment/Sustainability Degree/a recognised professional qualification associated with Sustainability.
- Experience wise, you will have a mid-high level of knowledge on environment and climate change, particularly in the areas outlined below:
- Legislation, frameworks and best practices.
- Net Zero standard and SBT.
- Scope 3.
- Carbon offsetting.
- Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
- Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
- Renewable energies.
- You will also have demonstrable experience in developing and driving carbon neutral or Net Zero strategy and plans in large organisations with great influencing skills, analytical skills (Able to understand data sources and indicators, and identify trends and gaps in data) and the ability to manage projects to deadlines, involving multiple stakeholder and content management.
- Ability to obtain BPSS level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment and criminal record checks).
