On behalf of the Home Office, Serco manages the Asylum Accommodation and Support Services Contract (AASC) for the Northwest of England. We focus on assisting individuals through the asylum system, ensuring that vulnerable asylum seekers have access to the support they need along with a high standard of accommodation.

As the Maintenance Operative your role is key in ensuring all requested repairs, be that reactive or proactive and pre planned (via manager), are carried out to the required standard and within our SLA deadlines.

This is an exciting opportunity covering Carlisle for an individual with previous maintenance experience within a field relating to joinery, fitting, plumbing, painting & decorating etc. You will be a highly motivated individual who can manage your own workflow as well as working within a team when necessary.

As a Maintenance Operative you will be responsible for the Health & Safety of yourself and that of all users of the property during, and after works have been undertaken and completed.

As part of your role, you will be required to purchase and manage materials using a company account card from approved Serco suppliers only. Vehicles provided by the company will be inspected regularly by employees and kept in a professional and clean condition.


Flexible Working pattern


- Mon to Fri 7.5 hours per day between 08:00 and 18:00 to meet the operational needs of the business.


On –Call Requirements & Out of Hours Working

- There will be a requirement to undertake out of hours on call duties, working on a rota basis to ensure 24/7 emergency cover is provided as per our contractual responsibilities. This will be carried out once every 10 weeks for emergencies.

You will need a willingness and ability to travel within the region and occasionally within the UK (a valid UK driver’s licence is essential). All offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the Home Office).

Responsibilities

• Participate in the processing of billing, collection, and recovery of Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rates (Business Rates) debts up to and including enforcement stage.
• Handle customer enquiries and correspondence efficiently and accountably while adhering to relevant legislative provisions, council policy, and financial regulations.
• Operate a systematic billing and recovery procedure within Revenues to ensure efficiency and accountability.
• Deal with customer enquiries via telephone, email, and written communication.
• Maintain accurate records and process information within set timescales and procedures.
• Make decisions in accordance with Council Tax and or Non-Domestic Rates legislation regarding liability, discounts, and reductions.
• Actively recover Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rates arrears through various communication channels.
• Monitor payment arrangements and take prompt recovery action in line with relevant legislation.
• Liaise with other Council staff, the Department of Work and Pensions, and other stakeholders to provide an efficient and effective revenues and benefit service.

Person Spec

• Proficiency in using Capita Academy and/or NEC Enterprise systems is a must.
• Sound understanding of Council Tax and/or Business Rates and relevant legislation built over a minimum of 7 year's experience of working in a Revenues environment.
• Reliable, responsible, and self-motivated.
• Ability to work to clearly defined targets and deadlines.
• Awareness and understanding of customer needs.
• Practical experience in an appropriate work environment and the ability to advise others on relevant issues.
• Clear communication skills with sensitivity and empathy to build trust.
