In September 2019, MacIntyre Academies Trust opened a new and exciting Academy in a purpose-built state of the art building in Rugby, Warwickshire for approximately 100 children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs and/or autism, aged between 7 years and 19 years. The new school has specialist facilities including a sensory room, therapy room, interactive immersive classroom, soft playroom, recording studio and photography suite. We are very proud of our holistic curriculum which enables the pupils to benefit from blended therapy in the classroom. We have a café located at the front of the school where parents can meet, and the pupils can display the items they have made within the school which will be available to purchase. Whilst the new building was being constructed the academy was located in a temporary modern school building on theoutskirts of Nuneaton and opened with 30 pupils in September 2017 rising to 55 pupils in September 2018.

The Role

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist to join this exciting school, this is a really exciting opportunity to bepart of something very special from the start.

Reporting to the Principal at Quest Academy, you will provide a specialised child-centred speech and language therapyservice to children and young people aged between 8 to 19 years of age who have autism and associated complex needsacross the academy, undertaking assessment, interpretation of assessment results, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, adviceand review.

You will also work closely with internal and external stakeholders to successfully contribute to the delivery of the vision, ethos, aims and objectives of the academy; in turn, enabling successful learning and achievement by young people and sustained improvement in their spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical well-being in preparation for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.

About You

You will hold a recognized professional Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent and be both a registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and also hold registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).

You will have demonstrative experience of working within Specialist Education supporting children and young people with Autism and learning disabilities who have severe and complex speech, language and communication needs and knowledge of statutory legislation concerning social care work including Health and Safety and Protection of Children and Young People.

Knowledge Skills and Experience This post is for Obstetric Theatre Services and may involve working in any of our 2 OperatingTheatres on labour ward. To participate in 24/7 working, which may include nights, week-ends, evenings and an on-call commitment. Clinical Act as a professional role model demonstrating clinical expertise in perioperative practice and assist in the setting and monitoring of professional standards. Provide skilled assistance and care to patients in the operating theatre. Assess care needs of the perioperative patient and develops, implements and evaluates programmes of care, rectifying and adjusting to meet individual needs. Demonstrate knowledge of current research, practices and procedures within the specialist field of theatre practice. Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing with the multidisciplinary team, patients and relatives. Work within professional codes of practice. Ensure that patients perioperative needs are continually assessed and appropriate care delivered and documented. Support the team within a given operating theatre/speciality, providing the appropriate clinical skills and advice. Ensure all resources, prosthesis and items required for surgery are available, communicating with senior staff and the medical team if there are any deficits/ issues. Supervise the work of junior staff ensuring quality and confidentiality are maintained. Able to ensure the theatre team works efficiently and effectively to meet the needs of the patients and maximise utilisation of theatre time Manage own workload and support others to do this. Manage the theatre department in the absence of senior staff, informing of changes in workload/problems to a member of the senior team. Measurable Result Areas To provide clinical leadership, giving advice and support to junior staff as required and acting as patients advocate at all times. To participate at departmental level in the delivery of the clinical governance and risk management agenda. Participate in clinical audit to ensure standards are continually reviewed and enhanced. Comply with and contribute to the review of Trust/departmental procedures, policies and protocols. Support and manage the teaching and induction of theatre support staff and newly appointed staff. Responsibility for research and development: from audits to undertaking research and development programmes on a regular basis. To accept responsibility for own NMC/HCPC registration and practice requirements including revalidation and CPD. To participate in team, professional and personal development activities to promote commitment to continuous development and improvement. Develop and maintain effective communication systems with all personnel internal and external to the Trust.

The handling of equipment e.g. hoists, is integral to the post and may be required to be undertaken in confined spaces within patients homes. The post holder will be required to operate as a lone worker in accordance with WCH policies and procedures The post holder may come into contact with bodily fluids including urine and faeces and exudate from wounds e.g. blood and pus
