Job Purpose

As the Commercial Quantity Surveyor you will assist the Area Commercial Manager, Lead Commercial Manager and Head of Commercial in providing quantity surveying support to the UKPN Services business across specified long-term contracts and several competitively tendered client projects.

You will manage all commercial matters for those contracts and projects with regards to contract set-up, management, pricing, service delivery, scope change and dispute resolution to ensure contract requirements are compliant with standards and co-ordinated to maximise profit delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

• To be commercial lead on a portfolio of nominated contracts and client construction projects
• To comply with all UKPN guidelines, goals and procedures, reporting areas of non-conformance to the Area Commercial Manager and wider commercial management team.
• Ensure the project delivery team have acted in accordance with the Contracts.
• Liaise with all external and internal stakeholders to enable the projects to progress without delay, ensuring that all reasonable requests are met.
• To support the preparation and verification of pricing models from first principals for projects of moderate complexity, using existing target price / fixed rates, together with cost data from industry recognised publications (e.g. SPONS & BCIS) to price schemes.
• Help prepare activity schedules and the presentation of tender documentation, attending interviews and carrying out full tender analysis and comparisons through to preparing the recommendation report.
• Interface with the Client Delivery Manager, Senior Project Managers, Project Managers and P6 Planners to deliver advice and support ensuring that the projects are managed following the Contract and deadlines
• Manage a programme of current workload, in order that all contracts receive the relevant allocation of resource to commercially manage them.
• To assist the Area Commercial Manager in providing guidance to junior members of staff.
• Deputise for the Area Commercial Manager as required.

• Consider alternative strategies for dispute resolution of moderate complexity and prepare written arguments from a claimant or defendant perspective, making recommendations to key UKPN stakeholders on the preferred option.
• Partner with internal and external legal advisors.

Dimensions:

• Turnover - £30 million to £40 million per year project and/or contract revenues.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

• Significant quantity surveying experience and business acumen, a track record in managing complex, high value and varied contracts from a quantity surveying perspective.

Your new role
This is an exciting new Out Of Hours Team Leader job. The purpose of the OOH Team Leader is to be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the dispatch team, ensuring efficient and timely coordination of engineers. This role involves managing dispatch staff, optimising dispatch procedures, and maintaining effective communication with engineers' clients, and other stakeholders. Key duties include but not limited to:

• Lead, mentor, train, and supervise the dispatch team, including scheduling shifts, assigning tasks, and monitoring performance.
• Oversee the dispatching of Engineers, ensuring that all operations are conducted efficiently.
• Facilitate clear and effective communication between dispatchers, engineers and other departments.
• Track and analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) for the team, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies.
• Address and resolve operational challenges, including emergencies and delays.
• Ensure accurate documentation of dispatch activities for reporting and compliance purposes.

What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this job you will require:

• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in dispatching, logistics, or a similar role
• Minimum of 1-2 years in a supervisory or leadership position.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Analytical skills to assess performance metrics and implement improvements.

About You


NVQ Level 3 in health and social care desirable

The MPGS provides professional soldiers to meet armed security requirements at Royal Navy, Army, RAF and other MOD bases across the UK Mainland. Our primary role is to counter the terrorist threat posed to military bases within the UK

Our duties include:

Security incident management - Such as suspicious packages, bomb threats, protests, etc.

Patrolling site perimeters - Taking necessary action to preserve perimeter security.

Controlling entry and exit - Managing control room and gate operations and ensuring all visitors are dealt with efficiently.

Military Working Dog services (at selected sites).

Our units are located at over 120 sites across the UK mainland. We have our own Military Local Service Contract which allows soldiers to choose where they wish to serve, providing there is a vacancy.

Requirements:

• Background - You must have at least 3 years prior Military Service, or be currently serving, in any arm of the British Military, regular or reserves.

• Age - You must be over 18 years and under 57 years of age at re-enlistment.

• Fitness Eligibility - You must be medically fit and have a Body Mass Index below 32.

• Driving Licence - You must have a full UK driving licence with less than 8 penalty points.

Previously Served Personnel:

• Gap Since Leaving Service - Former substantive Cpl/LH (or equivalent) and above ranks with no more than a 10 year gap of service, and for former non substantive Cpl/LH and below ranks who have a gap of service of no more than 6 years.
• If you feel you fall slightly outside the above criteria you can still apply for this role, for which a waiver may be granted subject to approval and interview processes.
• Previous Service Check - Your previous service records will be checked and final authorisation to proceed with the application must be given by the Army Personnel Centre.
