As a Fellow in Medical Education at Maudsley Learning, you will join a multi-professional team providing a high performing and fast paced yet supportive environment in which you would be supported to develop professionally while contributing actively to the goals and mission of Maudsley Learning.
You will learn how to design, develop, deliver, market, assess and research around simulation-based education and other trainings developed by Maudsley Learning and gain an unrivalled educational experience.
This is a fixed term 12 months full time post for a Fellow in Medical Education, designed for a Specialty Trainee (years 4-5) in psychiatry to undertake as an Out-of-Programme Experience (OOPE) from their training rotation.
1. Course delivery & development
• Be responsible for the successful roll out of training courses and programmes, including smooth delivery and debriefing that occurs in the an educationally valuable way.
• Be responsible for the design of simulation scenarios.
• Ensure high quality debrief and teaching processes are undertaken by faculty.
• Be part of the Maudsley Learning (ML) team which strives to improve and innovate by providing high quality education services.
2. Business development and income generation:
• Work with team leads in the development of business plans for new education programmes and bids.
• Provide clear verbal and written information for agencies wishing to understand about ML simulation.
• Contribute to the operational management of the ML team and business planning process.
3.Project Management
• Work with the team to set up and maintain programme controls, timelines for deliverable projects and ensure adherence to pre-agreed milestones.
• Attend weekly team meetings to support and monitor the review of projects deliverables.
1. Performance management / supervision:
• Provide supervision for associated faculty and junior doctors if required.
1. Stakeholder management and communications
• Communicate project and programme delivery plans across the organisation.
• Undertake and prepare reports, presentations and academic papers to be submitted for peer review.
• Present work on ML educational programmes at conferences and events

Maudsley Learning delivers a variety workforce development packages focussing on all aspects of mental health care in a variety of clinical and non-clinical settings. This includes simulation-based education courses under the Maudsley Simulation brand. Many training courses are interdisciplinary where patient safety, de-escalation, human factors and physical health issues can form a large part of the scenario design and content.
The post holder will contribute to the on-going development and delivery of mental health simulation-based education (SBE) and other training courses and at Maudsley Learning. As part of this remit the successful post-holder will ensure the on-going high-quality design, development and delivery of these trainings. They will help lead the rollout and on-going assessment of our evolving programme of multidisciplinary courses. This post would offer the post holder the opportunity to develop innovations to support clinical education and workplace practice, to work indirectly in care delivery and to gain an unrivalled educational experience.
The post holder will work closely with the Simulation Clinical Lead for Maudsley Learning and Simulation faculty. The main duties of the post holder will be to:
• Design, develop and deliver a series of simulation-based-education and other mental health training programmes and courses
• Evaluate the impact of courses and training programmes delivered, including presentation of results at relevant conference and submission for publication.
• Contribute to the writing bids and reports of completed training projects
• Contribute to the development of the simulation team, attending relevant meetings and events.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Course delivery & development
• To oversee and be responsible for the successful roll out of training courses and programmes.
• To work closely with the clinical lead, head of operations and other staff to ensure smooth
delivery and co-ordination with the centre’s medical and non-medical faculty to ensure
debriefing occurs in the most educationally valuable way possible.
• To oversee and to work in collaboration with faculty colleagues, and be responsible for the
design of a range of scenarios so that a large portfolio of different interventions can be offered
to our clinical teams.
• To oversee and be responsible for ensuring high quality debrief and teaching processes are
undertaken by the centre’s faculty. This will mean that close working with the clinical lead to
ensure consistency across simulation debriefing.
• To be part of the Maudsley Learning team which is continually striving to improve and to
innovate to provide high quality education services to meet the organisations overall aims.

• To work with the simulation clinical lead and other modality leads in the development of
business plans for new education and training programmes and bids.
• To be first line of contact and to provide clear verbal and written information for agencies
wishing to understand more about mental health and physical health simulation scenarios.
• To be part of the on-going development of the simulation team within the Trust and to attend
and actively contribute to the operational management of the team and to work for its
success.
• Contribute to the Maudsley Learning business planning process by providing analysis and
support.
