We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and highly motivated individual to join our radiology Clerical team here at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.

The successful applicant must be literate, numerate and have a good understanding of computers. The clerical team is vital to the efficient running of the imaging department which strives to deliver a high standard of patient centred care. We are looking for individuals with ambition who are able to work to and achieve goals and/or objectives set by their line manager.

Main duties include -
• liaising with the imaging team and patients, playing an integral part in the administrative tasks for the imaging department which includes greeting patients and booking them onto our Radiology information system while working on one of our reception desks, receiving and making telephone calls to book outpatient appointments.
• arranging In patient appointments as the in patient co-ordinator of the day.
• varied admin tasks throughout the day as required to deliver the service.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is the main provider of acute medical care for people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid-Wales. Most of our services are provided at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury.

The Radiology wider team is made up of Consultant radiologists, Radiographers, sonographers and assistants. Being part of the radiology administrative team you will be working along side these groups of clinicians to ensure we deliver a high standard of patient centred care.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Ward Clerk within ourdynamic team within the Acute Medical Floor.

The successful applicant will need to have experience dealing with the general public; they will have good IT skills and remain calm under pressure in this challenging role. Good telephone skills, confidence and a positive helpful manner is essential. Duties will include answering the telephone, filing, using the Care Flow system and booking appointments.

AMU/AMA/SDEC is a fast-paced environment requiring the ward clerk to meet demanding targets and must also be a pivotal member of the team. We also have a Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) which provides same day care to medical patients.

• Receive/welcome new patients onto the ward, checking particulars on their records and ensuring notes are in order. Ensure identity bracelets available for nursing staff. Compile sets of required blank documentation for emergency patients.
• Receive/welcome visitors onto the Ward and inform Sister/Charge Nurse or deputy of any query they may have.
• Answer the telephone, responding to questions or requests as appropriate.
• Request the services of allied healthcare professionals as requested by nursing staff (e.g., Phlebotomist/ECG Technician/Radiographers/Porters).
• Make outpatient referrals as requested by nursing staff.
• Notify Pathology of urgent blood specimens when requested by nursing staff.
• Request and collect (or deliver when requested) notes and x-rays from various departments.
• Order transport for patients as requested by nursing staff, competing appropriate paperwork.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Higher Level Medical Secretary to work within the Cardiology Secretary team based at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.

The post is full time fixed term or secondment for 1 year, working 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday.

The post holder will join a team of Medical Secretaries who organise the workload of the Consultants within the department and ensure that an efficient service is provided.

You should already possess 4 GCSE's (grades 9 - 4 or C - A) or equivalent, RSA stage 3 typing, word processing (or have equivalent experience), knowledge of MS Office and be qualified or working towards NVQ Level 3 Business/ Medical Admin or AMSPAR. The ability to plan and prioritise a varied workload is essential, as are good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of staff groups at all levels.

The post holder will produce accurate clinical and general correspondence, regularly using complex and sensitive medical terminology from audio transcription.

They will also be required to respond to telephone calls from anxious and distressed patients, responding appropriately to contentious, sensitive and difficult enquiries.

The successful applicant will gain valuable experience in the day-to-day management of a busy Medical Secretaries office and will provide an excellent opportunity for development and progression for a motivated candidate.
The successful applicant will join a busy team currently comprising of four Medical Secretaries at this site. The post holder is pivotal in the patient’s relationship with the hospital, the clinical team and the Consultants. UHI Orkney is seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons for the above relief role.   

Duties are varied and will include maintenance of electronic and manual filing systems, records management systems, inventories, and financial systems as well as general administrative duties. In addition, the role provides support with the administration of meetings, organisation of the Annual Graduation & Awards Ceremony and maintaining the College website.   

Candidates should have experience of working in a busy office environment, a good understanding of office systems and procedures, as well as experience in the use of computerised systems, in particular Microsoft Office, and a knowledge of spreadsheets and databases.   

Applicants are required to hold a qualification at SCQF level 5/6, (e.g. SVQ2, National 5, Standard Grades, O Grades, Intermediate 2, etc.) in a relevant subject or, where the essential qualification is not held, have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in an administrative role.

Answer telephones, dealing courteously, efficiently and sympathetically with calls and personal enquiries, referring to nursing staff as appropriate.
