About the Role:
Lambeth’s Highways team is looking for a new Clerk of Works (CoW). The successful candidate will be an integral part of Highway asset team and will be responsible for the management and monitoring of works carried out on site by contractors, other departments, and external organisations where specified.
As Clerk of Works, you will be independently responsible for the implementation of small to medium sized projects including Highway Maintenance, Development Related Works, Highway Improvement Projects, Traffic and Transport Schemes and large-scale urban redevelopment. You will inspect the workmanship, quality, and safety of construction activities on road work sites and ensure that work is carried out to the correct specifications, adhering to legal, safety, and environmental standards. Every day will likely bring a new challenge, but with boundless opportunity to make a positive difference to the experience of the huge number of people who use Lambeth’s highways.
To be considered for interview, your CV and supporting statement will clearly evidence:
- Knowledge of relevant legislation – Highways Act 1980, New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991 and Traffic Management Act 2004
- Understanding of Highways design and construction.
- Thorough understanding and ability to read and understand engineering drawings. Experience of highway construction, including supervision of works, such as block paving, asphalt surfacing, drainage asphalt and civils works.
- Able to use standard office software including word processing, spreadsheets and databases
- Able to communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders.
- Able to ensure that construction practices minimize ecological harm. They oversee drainage, tree preservation, and waste disposal.
- Share Lambeth’s core values of ambition and accountability.
