The role
As a Design and Engineering Manager, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll be part of a team will be responsible for delivering an exciting, first of its kind project on behalf of the Ministry of Defence and will involve decommission and dispose of nuclear assets no longer required for defence purposes.
Day-to-day, you'll be the focal point custodian for planning and managing complex multi discipline projects or collection of multi discipline tasks. You'll be the Design Authority and provide assurance, accountable for the integrity of the engineering undertaken within the project.
- Primary interface between Operations and the Design & Safety Team.
- Owner of several Site Licence Condition arrangements and point of contact with 'other' Design or Technical Authorities.
- Management and demonstration of team SQEP and compliance with site license conditions processes.
- Responsible for the integrity of engineering scoped by RRDL and then developed by Responsible Designers / Supply Chain - where engineering design potentially impacts safety.
- In accordance with project requirements, there may be a requirement to produce, review and approve calculations, analyses, drawings, models, design basis documentation and technical reports.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.
Essential experience of the Engineering and Design Manager
Although a desirable, nuclear experience is not an absolute requirement. We welcome applications from all engineering backgrounds.
- Experience of chairing single and multi-discipline design reviews.
- Ability to identify SQEP shortfalls and utilise the wider pool to fill/support project demands.
- Builds a sense of team spirit, encouraging co-operative relationships both within and outside of the project to deliver shared objectives.
- Experience of defining, applying, and monitoring engineering governance arrangements.
- Critical review of design substantiation (including methodology).
Qualifications for the Engineering and Design Manager
- Engineering degree (or equivalent qualification) in relevant engineering discipline, with significant demonstrable experience
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
