CACI provides expertise and technology to enterprise and mission customers in support of national security missions and government transformation for defense, intelligence, and civilian customers.
CACI’s culture is the driving force behind our success. Our culture defines who we are, how we act, and what we believe is both the right way and our duty in conducting business. Our culture unifies us as a company and strengthens our resolve to meet our customers’ – and our country’s – most critical missions.
CACI is looking for experienced Mechanical Engineers to work with the Active Response Gravity Offload System (ARGOS) at NASA / Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. Candidates should have a strong interest in spacecraft, mechanical design, structures, mechanisms, enjoy working with hardware, have had an outstanding academic career, and most of all, possess a great passion to contribute to our Nation’s exploration of space.
What You’ll Get to Do:
This work involves design and development of the ARGOS facility upgrade to prepare for NASA’s return to the Moon. ARGOS provides a reduced gravity environment used for engineering analysis, astronaut trials, and training for space operations in microgravity or lower gravity on a Lunar or planetary surface. An astronaut or robot is strapped into the ARGOS harness so that the system offloads the effects of Earth’s gravity. This will support NASA’s deep-space exploration initiative and the return to the moon and on to Mars. The engineer will support the ARGOS upgrades from conception, design, analysis, manufacturing, through to operational test and certification for operations.
This position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must be very people savvy, have strong customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise. Finally, the most qualified candidate will be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner, must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program, and share in the excitement of developing the next human-rated space vehicles.
More About the Role:
Job responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, integrate, and test the vertical and horizontal mechanical systems of ARGOS.
- Design, develop, integrate, and test a large, freestanding steel structure ensuring that it conforms to strength and modal requirements.
- Design and develop mechanisms and structural elements.
- Size motors including gearing.
- Integrate, test, and assemble hardware.
- Verify, validate, and analyze mechanical drawings.
- Create documentation of the ARGOS systems and subsystems.
This work takes place at NASA/JSC in Houston, TX, a highly stimulating and dynamic environment that is critical in human space flight and the space exploration initiative.
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident for access to USG Facilities.
- B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or related disciplines required with a minimum of 3+ years relevant experience.

- Familiarity with basic design for manufacturing principles
- Experience with structural design, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), mechanisms, motor sizing, and gearing.
- Experience with sensor integration.
- Experience with static and dynamics engineering analysis.
- Experience with material properties and standards.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers.
