This is an exciting opportunity to join our Contract Strategy team to provide a quantity surveying service for the Council’s 37,000 current properties and progress the housing new build programme.

You will be joining a Service which strives for excellence in service delivery and works well with partners, including our new joint venture companies. You will work within a multi-disciplinary environment and be responsible for cost estimating, preparation of contract documents, payments and contract administration.

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be part of the Contract Strategy management team and will be involved in all aspects of quantity surveying function, including procurement and contract management and have staffing responsibilities including absence management, allocating/supervising work and undertaking PRDs.

You should be educated to degree level and be a full chartered member of RICS. You should have considerable experience within the design and construction industry, experience of computerised billing systems and knowledge of public sector procurement and current contract conditions.

To be successful in the role you will possess the following:
- Tertiary qualifications in the related discipline - bachelor's degree in finance, or relevant field
- Previously worked in the Mining, Construction and Engineering sectors
- 2-3 years' experience in similar role
- Knowledge in the application and establishment of project planning, scheduling and cost control tools
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to details
- Competent in all Microsoft Office Suites

SMB Glass and Windows are currently looking to recruit an experienced and qualified Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Scoresby 3179.

The successful candidate will need to undertake and possess:

- Determining construction methods, materials, and quality standards, and drafting and interpreting specifications, drawings, plans, construction methods and procedures
- Organising and directing site labour and the delivery of construction materials, plant, and equipment, and establishing detailed programs for the coordination of site activities
- Obtaining soil and rock samples at different depths across sites and testing samples to determine strength, compressibility and other factors that affect the behaviour of soil and rock when a structure is imposed and determining the safe loading for the soil
- Studying architectural and engineering drawings and specifications to estimate total costs, and preparing detailed cost plans and estimates as tools to assist in budgetary control
- Monitoring changes to designs, assessing effects on cost, and measuring, valuing, and negotiating variations to designs
- Analysing structural systems for both static and dynamic loads
- Designing structures to ensure they do not collapse, bend, twist or vibrate in undesirable ways
- Assessing present and future travel flow patterns considering population increase and needs change
- Designing the physical aspects of transportation systems such as highways, railroads, urban transit, air transportation, logistical supply systems and their terminals


Skills and Abilities:

- Complete a tertiary qualification in quantity surveying or construction management or equivalent
- Ideally have a minimum of three years’ experience as a qualified Quantity Surveyor
- The ability to work in a team environment


Salary range is $70,000-$85,000pa commensurate with experience.

• Performs the full range of field duties including construction management, quality assurance, and safety monitoring functions for complex Military Construction projects.
• Incumbent participates in design review conferences and discusses construction aspects of the design and foreseeable problems.
