Our client is a Tier one main contractor, working on a multi-million pound highway improvement project in the Oxfordshire / Buckinghamshire area.
This is a major roads project, including A & B roads, and roundabout and junction upgrades.
There is circa 1 year worth of work, with follow-on projects in the local area thereafter.

Your new role
You will be Senior Quantity Surveyor, reporting to the Commercial Lead for the area.
You will be part of a commercial team, with input to oversee the QS & AQS in your team.
The project has started recently, therefore this is managing a live major project, all the way through to final account.
NEC 4 Form of contract.
This role is inside IR35

What you'll need to succeed
You will have a main contracting background, having worked on Roads and Highways projects previously.
NEC4 form of contract experience
Ability to oversee and assistant or intermediate QS. Able to commit to a long term, (circa 24 months) assignment

Your new role
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will play a crucial role in the successful delivery of commercial construction projects. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of the commercial function, including cost control, procurement, and contract administration. This is a hybrid role that requires regular site visits to both Derby and Gatwick, ensuring effective project management and client engagement.
What you'll need to succeed
Responsibilities:

• Manage the full commercial lifecycle of projects, from initial estimates through to final accounts.
• Prepare accurate cost plans, budgets, and estimates, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
• Conduct procurement activities, including subcontractor selection, negotiation, and contract management.
• Perform detailed analysis of project costs, identifying areas for cost optimisation and value engineering.
• Manage and negotiate variations, claims, and settlements with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Ensure accurate cost reporting and forecasting, providing regular updates to senior management.
• Collaborate closely with project teams, including architects, engineers, and contractors, to address commercial issues and mitigate risks.
• Monitor contract compliance and identify potential contractual disputes, proposing appropriate resolutions.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior quantity surveyors, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends, regulations, and best practices in quantity surveying.

Requirements:

• Previous experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, with a focus on commercial projects.
• Strong knowledge of quantity surveying practices, including cost control, procurement, and contract administration.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, delivering them on time and within budget.
• Holds a degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
• Excellent knowledge of construction contracts, such as JCT and NEC.
• Proficiency in using quantity surveying software and tools.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
• Ability to attend each site in Derby and Gatwick at least once a week.
• MRICS (Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) qualification is desirable.
