Senior Quantity Surveyor - Highways - Bury St Edmunds

Are you a highly experienced and commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor with a passion for delivering successful highways projects?

We are seeking a motivated and driven individual to join our team in Bury St Edmunds, working on a range of exciting and challenging projects involving highway improvements and maintenance.

About the Role:

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in the successful financial management and delivery of our projects. You will provide commercial leadership and guidance, ensuring cost-effective delivery within budget. Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing and maintaining detailed cost plans, estimates, and budgets.
• Managing and negotiating contracts with sub-contractors and suppliers.
• Monitoring project costs and identifying potential cost overruns.
• Implementing effective cost control measures.
• Preparing and analyzing cost reports and providing regular updates to the project team and stakeholders.
• Ensuring compliance with relevant contractual and legal requirements.
• Mentoring and guiding junior members of the Quantity Surveying team.

About You:

• Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor on large-scale highways or infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of highway construction principles and practices.
• Excellent commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
• Proficient in cost management software and tools (e.g., CostX, Asite).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lead and motivate a team.
• A relevant degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
• Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. RICS) is essential.

Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location: Suffolk, Bury St Edmunds - some remote working available, with travel to the office required

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our client Natural Resources and Nuclear team based in Bury St Edmunds. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be involved in the delivery of key commercial objectives, ensuring profitability and cash collection while providing valuable commercial advice to operational teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure that business targets and client KPIs are exceeded, identifying and resolving problems at an early stage
• Produce and provide cash flow forecasts, budgets, and financial and contractual performance forecasts to the management team and external stakeholders.
• Prepare and disseminate budgets, ensuring that managers are briefed and able to monitor and react to budget variances.
• Review monthly CVRs with the team prior to submission to the Managing Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager, ensuring compliance with business timescales and utilization of commercial and administrative systems, budgets, and cost control procedures.
• Operate risk and opportunity schedules as live documents, developing mitigation measures where risks are identified.

This role is ideal for you if you:

•      Have experience at a senior level in a relevant industry or equivalent.
•      Possess an appropriate qualification and have sound commercial and business knowledge.
•      Have a thorough understanding of the NEC suite of contracts or similar.
•      Possess excellent IT skills, specifically within Microsoft Office and similar software.
