Due to some project wins, they are now seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to their business. This role is working for some of their most important clients and will be focused on delivering a range of projects across public sector building infrastructure over the next few years. Your initial project will be a £10million refurbishment project in Edinburgh and this will be followed by a range of similar projects across the Central Belt.


Your new role
Your role will be initially site based in Edinburgh, but our client offers a supportive and progressive agile flexible work policy so candidates from across the Central Belt will be considered. Future projects will be across the Central Belt and our client's client's head office is based in a convenient central location. As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be expected to commercially deliver a range of projects across public sector infrastructure. Reporting to the Sector commercial manager, you will be expected to ensure your projects are commercially successful through effective commercial management, procurement and reporting. As Senior QS, you will be expected to deliver accurate and timely reports and work closely with your client and other stakeholders to ensure a positive commercial relationship is developed. Working with your experienced site team, you will capture and mitigate any commercial risk and ensure it is managed in line with project targets and commercial expectations.


What you'll need to succeed
The ideal candidate is a Project QS seeking to step into a Senior QS role or a Senior QS who is seeking to work for a leading employer in the industry. You will have experience of delivering construction projects to the public sector and understand the contracts typically aligned with these projects. You will have exceptional presentation and communication skills and will be comfortable holding your own commercially in meetings with your clients and their representatives. We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the role of Senior Building Standards Surveyor working within a diverse and professional department.

Edinburgh is a dynamic and growing city, and the Building Standards Team has a key role in the continued development of our capital city by processing around 5000 building warrants a year. We aim to provide a seamless development consent process with close collaboration between professionals in different service areas. You can be part of this exciting journey, helping to facilitate these opportunities whilst ensuring construction works within the city are designed and built to meet safety standards, further sustainable development and ensure the safety of people in and around buildings.

You would be responsible for processing complex building warrants, supporting team managers in their activities and inspecting dangerous/defective buildings. Further, you would play a key role in developing Surveyors, Assistant Surveyors and Graduate Apprentice Surveyors whilst playing an integral part in delivering improvement projects for the service to maintain high levels of performance and customer satisfaction.

You will have the ability to work as part of a team or on your own initiative to manage a diverse caseload. You will have good communication, IT and organisational skills and be committed to a high standard of customer care. The Housing and Homelessness, Capital Investment service is a large multi skilled service responsible for Area Based Regeneration, Low Rise Block Management and High Rise Investment. We carry out Whole House Retrofit investment programmes across low rise and high-rise homes and ensure our homes meet the Energy Efficient Standards for Social Housing by 2032. We also carry out planned investment, improvement and replacement programmes including kitchen and bathroom, domestic rewiring, central heating systems, window, and door upgrades as well as adaptations to allow people to stay in their homes longer.

We are looking to recruit two Apprentice Surveyors to work in roles across the service which will provide you with an opportunity to gain academic knowledge through study and on site work experience within a practical environment in a busy Council service.

The Role

You will study towards a BSc (Hons) in Construction and the Built Environment, and you will be fully supported by a dedicated work place mentor to ensure you gain the right mix of academic and on site skills and experience to successfully complete your apprenticeship. You will also develop management, business and technical skills and will assist the Capital Investment and Delivery team within Strategy and Development to deliver ambitious programmes of improvement to our council homes.

Qualifications Required

Year 1

• SQA Highers at ABBB or equivalent.

Implementing EDF Renewables Health and Safety policy and carry out regular checks and balances to ensure that it has been correctly applied in all the aspects of the construction project activities.

- Assisting the Business Development departments to successfully achieve Financial Investment Decision on pipeline projects and acquisitions

Your new role
As Project Quantity Surveyor you will be fully commercially responsible for the delivery of projects in the range of 500K to £5million across multiple sectors. Our client is a client focused business who rely on repeat business, so their QS's are expected to develop and maintain positive relationships with their clients, ensuring that they are left with a positive outcome on their projects. You will be involved from pricing a project all the way through to final accounts. You will be supported by an experienced senior leadership team and be part of a small but busy commercial team. Our clients are known for their quality of workmanship, and they like to take the same approach to how they treat their staff, suppliers and clients.


What you'll need to succeed
The ideal candidate is a degree-qualified Quantity Surveyor perhaps with experience working for a medium to small builder who has a wide range of experience across multiple sectors. You like to work on a range of different projects and enjoy the cut and thrust of working with construction experts in the delivery of challenging refurbishment, heritage and education projects. This may suit a traditionally trained QS from a residential background seeking to work on a different type of project to broaden their experience.

Your new role
As Senior QS you will be reporting to the commercial director and be fully commercially responsible for the delivery of high-end residential projects. You will be getting involved in all phases of projects from working on cost plans and budgets to prospective sites and developments to commencing the commercial process for projects hitting and delivering them. A large part of your initial role will be to work on the procurement phase of a large high-profile residential project in a central Edinburgh location. This project is a 3-year project with a £40million build cost, and it is really just starting to move, so your initial workload will be front end subcontract procurement and contract award. As things develop, you will be tasked with managing these projects to completion, working in close collaboration with an exceptional site team.

Our client is looking for an experienced SQS who has had exposure to all elements of quantity surveying within a developer or main contractor environment. Your new role
